Severe tortuosity and redundant colon

Posted by julsnealey @julsnealey, Apr 10, 2024

I had a colonoscopy for symptoms of unexpected weight loss, severe pain, bloating, early satiety and chronic vomiting with bowel movements. I have had these symptoms for years (15), but they have increased in frequency and severity. The doctor discovered severe tortuosity and redundant colon. He said he had to get help in moving the scope through manually the very tight turns and twists. My question is: What medications have proven successful to management? Best diet? Doctor said it was so bad that surgery may be the best course of action, but they try and avoid that for obvious reasons. Anyone have a success story?

@standinginf
aithstandingbear Interesting...what is the difference between Linzess and Trulance? I may want to switch to that if things don't resolve very soon!

I too was diagnosed during a colonoscopy. Dr had to switch to a pediatric scope to get through. Right now with a balanced diet and PB Restore from Doterra Essential Oils I go almost every day even if it’s just enough to ease the pain and bloating. Also start my day slowly with a cup of coffee. I don’t eat until at least an hour or so after getting up.

I know it's been quite a while since you posted this, but I was wondering if you have any updates? Were you able to manage your symptoms better?

I'm 25F and dealing with the same thing. It's escalated over the past three months, and this week I haven't been able to get a meal down without vomiting afterwards. It's also accompanied by bad cramping and usually diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy about six months ago that revealed the redundant colon, but haven't successfully managed the symptoms and am so exhausted. I am also carrying puke bags everywhere I go, and just want to heal! I'd love to know if you were able to improve your symptoms 🙂

@sienamaria Yes, update~ amitizia has been terrific for me! Ohmygosh. For yrs it has seemed to me that my guts do not move so when I learned about medicines such as amitizia, I was astonished & immediately request that my doctor prescribe it. Such a game changer for me. Never give up, my Friends.

@cbmeed so happy you found something!! I neglected to say that a natural product, psyllium husk, 1 tsp a day in water- WORKS too!!! Cheap and effective!! Doesn’t taste great but that’s not as important as Effective!❤️❤️

Im genuinely glad for your positive experience with psyllium husks. I can appreciate your intention to offer help but, I've been @ this for decades. I've used many, many prescribed, natural, otc, online suggestions, researched references for relief, solutions, including psyllium husks of course, to no avail. Amitizia is my most recent & I sincerely hope &, for now, believe, this prescription medication will be the final one.

@cbmeed I hope you have a positive out come with Amitiza, but if not please try Linzess. My husband was on both with Linzess being the best.
