Severe pain continues after gall bladder removal !
After dealing with episodes of severe abdominal pain for years, finally had my gallbladder removed. expecting to have condition resolved, but I continue to have severe, pain, 6 months after surgery. Doctors do not have any answers. My father and my grandmother had this pain and were pain free after removal of their gall bladder. I have a young family and full time job and am very active, but when I get these attacks of pain I am basically paralized. I cannot move. Nothing helps !
I just have to wait it out. Sometimes for hours. Has anyone found an answer to this situation.
Thank you

Ditto!! I had my gallbladder out at age 25 and have had issues since but nothing like this. Please listen to this respondent they are so right!! PAIN IS SCREAMING SOMETHING IS “WROND!” I’m so sad to hear that you are going on with your life in such excruciating pain. At the risk of speaking the truth… that doctor may have done something wrong!! My friend went through exactly what you are after her gallbladder surgery and was blown off. At age 49 she died. Do not wait. Please. Prayers. Diane.
Please be sure to have the MRCP scan done and an endoscopy procedure. that is how they found out that there was another blocked duct that they had missed when they removed the gall bladder. Since they removed the additional blocked duct, there has not been any pain. Please take care of yourself and get help. !!!!

3 ReactionsSo sorry I too have had gall bladder surgery mine was severe I had gangrene and millions of stones in it and the bile duct so 2 surgeries. A drain was placed in me on my right side of my belly I had it removed the first day I got home so why am I having the pain on this side still. Is it normal? The surgeon wants a scan on me title out infection or anything else. I am praying no drain again as that is what they say if it's infection. I hope you find an answer I wish you healing and blessings.

2 Reactions@hlp123 Did they remove the stone? I mean you still have your duct right? I don't know why I am still having pain on drain side after removed gall bladder I had gangrene severe infected gall bladder for 40 years I got attacks so 5 weeks ago they removed it had a hard time getting it out 6 cuts robotic surgery awful. Too much anesthesia too. I am tiny and thin but this was filled with stones and the duct had to be surgically done remove the stones in there too. So since then I am having pain still in drain side so have to take another scan to see if no infection or hernia. I don't want another drain which is what they do if it's infected. God forbid that is horrid pain. I hope we all get healed this is terrible when you want to go on with your life and can't do anything with this pain.

2 ReactionsSo sorry I am dealing with this right now been 5 weeks post op from infected gangrene millions of stones in gall bladder and duct 2 surgeries I almost died in they told me I am a tiny woman have had this gall bladder for 40 years then it's only 4 stones but did not bother me until this year I had severe attacks. They like not operate as I had a cancer cervical womb surgery at 36 then I was born with thalassemia anemia, dint get enough blood to the heart or oxygen so very anemic and so they would not touch it for many years as not to cause me to bleed and need blood. So I was could never enjoy eating only once in my early 50's but then it was all down hill with watching what I ate forever it seems. So now even though I have good family genes and look like 50 but I am now 79 I still feel this severe pain from all the 6 incisions and drains I was in icu for a week and hospital for 3 more weeks. So the robot takes my gall bladder out and cannot get it out by these smaller cuts so they give me a bigger front last side cut and dragged it by my right side fracturing my right rib and gave me a drain of blood to deal with in right side. So now I am home and my daughter is helping me but I am still not able to eat right have to run to bathroom several times and cannot do what I used to do the pain stops me recovering is taking very long as if all this that I had done 2 surgeries 5 hours each and I slmost died in then they had given me too much anesthesia could not wake me up so left me with bad trauma and pain bent over when I walk with my cane don't use the little walker anymore but still I have to take another scan to see if my surgery and side is not infected and they are saying maybe put another drain in other left side if they have too. I said never I pray there is nothing wrong and it is operation nerve pain like they say trying to heal. I pray you are going to be better too. I believe you this pain is incapacitating nothing helps Tylenol heating pad and wait till it stops for hours. God bless us and heal us soon. 🙏🙏🙏🫶🏻♥️♥️

2 ReactionsHad gall bladder removed years ago. Never have been able to eat fried foods, spicy foods, fatty foods much at all. I recently was sick, had to take lots of medications to get well. It seems the medications upset my digestive system.
At times I feel as if I still have the gallbladder. Lots of bloating, gas causing pain where the gallbladder was removed. My food realm has always been restricted, especially now. In addition to bloating, have bouts of in digestion. I take natural products to help digest my foods and papaya enzymes for indigestion. After the surgery it seems I've developed acid reflux (I have a bed I can raise up for that) and I'm not sure if this is a no product of this?? But I have migraines. My back muscles seem to be knotted cause my head to hurt? But I have no clue if that's related or not. I eliminated sodas years ago, I drink very weak de-caf coffee, and only on occasions, here lately I am not drinking coffee, mostly filtered water, not bottled. I have a lot of scar tissue according to the surgeon that did my procedure in 1998.
I am currently using a cream to help with hormones (Dr. supervised) I am struggling with my weigh, (20 over) and I know that doesn't help, especially when I'm bloated.
I'm scared it's a serious problem, had to change Dr's recently as my Dr. retired.
I was told by my Dr it would be unwise to have children, the scare tissue could cause lots of pain. ( way to old for that now)
So, I start with new Dr. tomorrow.
Lately when my stomach is empty early mornings 4-7 am I get a little surge of being nauseous. I eat small meals, very bland. I've discovered white foods not good for me. For some reason frozen yogurt seems to help?
Like I said I still feel like, at times, I still have the gallbladder, especially this past month of February-March 2026.
I praying it's not serious, I'm concerned.
Any suggestions, observations, encouragement is welcome. Prayer is much appreciated. PJ

1 Reaction@ali62 thank you SO much for this suggestion. It is most kind you took the time to respond. 😊
Sorry to hear that you are still having pain after Gall Bladder removal.I have read that the Bile is contained in the Gall bladder and when it is removed the Bile is uncontained and flows throughout the body which can cause discomfort and diarrhoea.I had my gall bladder removed approx.25 yrs ago and over past 3 years I have been having a lot of diarrhoea which my gastro.thinks may be caused by Bile.
My Mother had this operation years ago. She said it was the most challenging one she ever had.
I hope you will be all right.
