Severe knee joint paint after Reclast infuaion?

Posted by louiemeyers @louiemeyers, Jul 7 10:47am

I had my first Reclast infusion last Tuesday. Starting yestersay (5 days later), every time I stand up my knee joints hurt extremely and I cant walk for 3-5 minutes, then I can walk but bottom half of legs feel heavy for another 2-3
Minutes. Then fine. Also some wrist
Pain that comes and goes. I have called my rheumatologist’s place
And a nurse will
Call back later today, but I am wondering if anyone else experienced this?

I did! I had a Reclast infusion after Evenity injections to maintain the gains.
One knee swelled up significantly for several days, eventually returning to normal. I couldn’t put weight on it for almost a week.
My joints ached for many months.
That was almost 3 years ago.

If all the pain from the Reclast infusion goes away I would say that you are lucky; I have been 13 months and the pain in my shoulders can and does wake me up in the middle of the night!

I am so sorry! It’s weird; as sudden as all the pain came on it went away! Went to gym last night and all is good. Cant explain it. Hoping something doesnt come back but am aware it can for
Up to two months the nurse said

Hello. I hope your post-Reclast side effects go away soon. My first infusion was on Feb 1 this year. I had the flu like symptoms for a few days as my doc had warned me of. But I also had extreme knee pain in both so I had to pull myself up the stairs using my arms on the railing. That continued, as well as other joints such as neck, hips, elbows and hands, for 2-3 weeks. Prior to my infusion, I’d been going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week. After 3 weeks I called my rheumatologist and she said to see another doc for imaging of my knees. I feel like the Reclast infusion really ramped up my areas of osteoarthritis. I will not repeat it yearly as was the original plan. Joints affected are about 50% better than those early days, but now I’m going to PT and wearing braces on knees. Exercising in the pool since it is a gentler way to try and keep up strength. I look forward to these side effects going away in time.
Best of health to you and 🙏 that you will not have lingering side effects.
