Severe itching with PV
After 2 years of very little itching on baby aspirin, I was, for a variety of reasons, switched to Eliquis. I now have mild itching during the day but starting at 10pm it becomes worse until midnight, when it’s intolerable. Zantac and Zyrtec taken together work sometimes but not reliably. Beta Alanine taken with both, helps a little but the severity is sometimes so intolerable that I am pacing all night or taking multiple showers and applying lots of lotion. Have any of you experienced this late night problem ( which may be regulated by cortisol levels) and what have you found actually works? I would be so grateful for your suggestions. Living without sleep is not working. Benedryl is not a long term option.

Hello resilient! I suffered with brutal burning / itching for years ! I still do if I do not take a medication called HYDROXYZINE
THIS WORKS FOR ME WITHOUT ANY SIDE EFFECTS ! It’s cheap prescription medication!! My primary doctor is the one who prescribed it first time !! I also apply cold packs on my skin ! You can get cheap small cold packs at cvs !
I was disabled by the unusually symptom !! I would not recommend taking frequent showers because sometimes even the water drops bring on the itching!! Friction to my skin
Causes symptoms! That is how sensitive my skin over my entire body has become !! Speak to your doctor about this meds !
I hope you try it and I hope it works for you as well as it does for me !! Good luck
Thank you so much for weighing in on this. It feels like 1000 little flies biting at the same time. No sleep.
I actually discussed Atarax with my hematologist and he was not in favor. He wanted me to stick with Zyrtec. I’ll ask again.
Itching was so terrible for me that it controlled my life. Finally the Oncologist put me on Jakafi. No itching at all. It is expensive but my insurance covers all of it.
Jakafi stopped the itching plus other symptoms for me.
Hi again! If you read other comments about help with itching/burning , patients are taking JAKAFI and it helps ! I also am on JAKAFI
But HYDROXIZINE HELPED ENORMOUSLY PRIOR TO TAKING JAKAFI ! I do know if your doctor discussed JAKAFI WITH YOU SO I DID NOT WANT TO BRING IT UP !
I am taking 5 mgs twice daily! I was on twice the dose but brought down my blood numbers into red zone!
I also take ZYRTEC FOR SEASONAL ALLERGY BUT DID NOT HELP THE PAINFUL SKIN !! Or itching
I would ask my doc again !
It was my primary doctor who first prescribed it !!
My hem/onc did not bring it up !! But it really does improve my skin pain and itching ! I used to get red blotches on my inner arms and thighs! Hives !! Sensitive and painful!!
Good luck my friend!
I have been dealing with my blood disorder for almost 20 years so I have lots of experience with symptoms!!
Thank you for all your experience. I am going to discuss all these options.
