Second round of Forteo
Wondering if anyone has done a second course of Forteo. I took Forteo about seven years ago. Had decent gains and no side effects. Followed it by one dose Reclast. Gains held pretty steady until this year my T score of spine dropped to -3.6. Also had small fracture from car accident. Dr. wants me on Evenity but honestly that really scares me given that i have a very strong family history of stroke and cardiac issues (in both parents, and my dad’s whole family). I don’t have any cardiac issues. Just have high cholesterol. But I think I’m too scared to take it. Wondering about retreatment with Forteo or Tymlos. Anybody do retreatment with either of those anabolics??

2 ReactionsI also took Forteo with good results in 2016 and now taking a second course and into my 14th month. Evenity was not covered by my plan and I'm happy to do what I already know my body accepts. There should be more research or info gathering on those of us doing a second course of Forteo/Teriparatide.

Thanks for your reply. Agree there should be more info gathering on those doing second course of Forteo. Did your endocrinologist comment about any info available?

1 Reaction@hipsalve No. She is pushing Evenity. I will have to see my bone density results in January to make a final decision, but not overly impressed with what I have read on Evenity, nor is it covered by my insurance.

I have had a very positive experience with Evenity if it helps. No noticeable side effects and great improvement.
Good luck on your bone journey.
@broken13
What did you take after your first round of Forteo? No side effects? Why did u start again? Help
@broken13
What did you use after your first round of Forteo that made you resume so many years later?
@ipg After first time of 24 months with Forteo, I had one shot of Prolia and developed severe dental problems, so did not continue and instead, used Raloxifene . It held my gains, "with no significant change" noted in my yearly bone density scan. (however, keep in mind they can no longer get readings from my spine do to previous multiple compression fractures). It was noted that over the years those "insignificant loss results' were adding up and an another course of Forteo recommend.

Please clarify- so after another round of Forteo what did you do?Should we prepare to be on these medications for the rest of our lives, deal with side effects and hope that other medications develop? Did your dental problems resolve??? All the Best
@broken13 I am on Tymlos, and tentatively planning to follow with raloxifene. Did you have any side effects from raloxifene? I am thinking I might eventually need to go back on Tymlos or Forteo if possible as I expect my numbers will start to drop again
