SCT NOW CAR-T

Posted by steph6010 @steph6010, Jun 12 1:40pm

I had my SCT on March 20, 2021, stayed in remission until June 2023. Started a new maintenance regimen with an infusion (weekly) and Pomalyst (2mg). WBC are at a stand-still of 2.4. Now, I have an appointment to see the doctor for the CAR-T Cell Therapy. My church member is scheduled to have her CAR-T Cell Therapy soon. My question is this: How long is the recover? Is it similar to the SCT? I know that everyone's body is different!

Hi @steph6010 and welcome to Connect. Recovery time for CAR-T will vary with each person, of course. But recovery for most patients seems to be about 6 weeks and then a gradual return to normal energy, stamina over the next few months.

Did you have an autologous transplant (ASCT) using your own cells or did you have an allogeneic transplant with donor cells? An auto transplant recovery time is comparatively shorter than that of a donor transplant patient.

I think you’d get a great deal of helpful information by reading through this conversation started by @4health4bonnie a few months ago when she entered into her CAR-T therapy adventure for multiple myeloma. She’s doing fantastically a few months later!

What diagnosis brought you to having the SCT?

Expect 1–3 months of limited activity, with full recovery possibly taking 6–12 months, akin to SCT but less intensive. Consult your oncologist about your WBC, regimen adjustments, and supportive care to optimize recovery. Wishing you and your church member strength for CAR-T. Would you like more detail let me know?

Hi @steph6010 I just wanted to follow-up with you to see if you’d seen my initial reply for you about CAR-T vs SCT in terms of recovery time. Do you have an appointment with a CAR-T specialist coming up soon?
