SBRT without using fiducial markers.

After 6 months of Abaxane and Gemcitabine, there was no reduction of my tumor( some necrotic tissue on the interior. ) My next step is trying radiation for tumor reduction and I have chosen to go the SBRT route. Due to the involvement of veins and arteries, I am not a surgical candidate, but I am being considered for Nano-knife procedure. Problem is you can't have fiducial markers if you want Nano-knife procedure. I have been referred to a radiation oncologist that is supposed to be able to do SBRT without using markers. My consult appointment is a week away. Any suggestions or questions I should be asking the doctor before procedure? Anyone else been through this?

Hi, I have had radiation twice (28 rounds on pancreas, 5 rounds on lung) and never had fiducial markers placed. Both times it was just a Sharpie marker on the skin covered by a clear circular bandage. I was also stage 3 with vein/artery involvement.

Thanks for that info. Hopefully I will be looking at a similar procedure. Was your radiation the SBRT targeted radiation? I will be looking at from 5 to 10 treatments in a 2 week time period.

Yes. SBRT for 5 doses spaced over 2 weeks. For lung nodule. Very well tolerated.

Also had 5 rounds for a lung nodule. No issues.
Now on Naliri and starting SBRT next week on a stubborn liver lesion. I expect fatigue due to being on chemo simultaneously. No markers except sharpie
