Saying Goodbye and Thank You ALL

Posted by ninadavis @ninadavis, 3 days ago

It's been a week since I stopped taking my last daily dose of 1/4 mg of prednisone, tapering from 20 mg for the last 18 months, VERY slowly. I have an appt. with my rheumatologist in two weeks and will get blood done of course. So I am here to say goodbye and I hope I never 'see' any of you again, lol. I have learned a tremendous amount and you all have helped me feel as if I was not alone. Thank you all ever so much and good luck to all of you.

@ninadavis, It's great to hear that your PMR is skedaddling out of your life! I hope it stays in remission. Your experiences can still help others if you drop in once in awhile. 🙂 Best wishes!

Great news from you and I hope to be so lucky! I'm less than a month into this diagnosis but I am filled with hope due to this group.

You should stay and tell us how you were able to get off prednisone in a reasonable amount of time. I don’t think there is a single best way to achieve remission and taper off prednisone. I took prednisone for far too long so maybe you can tell me what I did wrong. The experts are people like you who can successfully taper off relatively quickly but they tend to disappear and move on.

Please stay around to update us on your rheumatologist visit!
Best of luck to you!

DadCue, I have seen you around here, I have posted a good amount about how I think people should taper super slowly especially when getting below 7mg. And I was a vegetarian for over 30 years before this getting PMR and super healthy so I really don't have any answers. I don't know if there are answers when you own body attacks itself. I will post after seeing what my rheumatologist says.

I'm a believer in slow tapers too. I have just modified my belief based on my personal experience over time. Now I believe the mantra should be: Taper prednisone slowly but not too slowly. Then when tapering stops and you need to increase your dose ... try something else.

You really should stay and share your experiences with others. It is so helpful when people realize they are not alone and that someone had the same experiences.

Congratulations! I only recently found out the PMR support group and have found the members comments and experiences very helpfull. I have had PMR for 10 & 1/2 months and have tapered down from 20mg to 10mg. Tried a couple times to go down to 9mg but had go back to 10mg. I was wondering if you or other members have any personal experience/advice on diet and exercise. I have read some articles about the benefits of a good diet (less sugar, alcohol etc) and also the need for some exercise. I am curious about how exercise and diet along with your tapering schedule have contributed to your success in beating your PMR.
Best of luck in the future.

I know you are excited about what you are leaving behind and as well as the possibilities ahead of you. You have worked hard to be where you are. Relax and savor the moment. We wish you well and don't forget your friends left in the PMR muck still fighting their way out. Take care!
