Sarcoid Cardiac Pet Scan

Posted by lyn25 @lyn25, 2 days ago

Has anyone had a Cardiac Pet Scan at Mayo’s for Sarcoidosis? I am having one next week and am confused about the diet. I have a strict diet of only select fatty meats (no veggies, dairy, condiments, etc.) for two days before the test. Unflavored Sausage links and bacon are allowed but no cured meats. If the diet isn’t followed the test will be rescheduled. All sausages and bacon I’m seeing has added sugar and corn syrup which I can’t eat since no carbs are allowed. Has anyone had this test that can give me some guidance as to what they ate? Mayo suggested I cook my own meats for those two days so we have a suite with a kitchen.

I have had several PET Scans for my cardiac sarcoidosis. Yes you do need to follow the diet. There is a blood test prior and before the scan you report your entire diet to the PET Scan person. I was told the radioactive isotope adheres to the fat cells highlighting them in order to make a good scan. I do have sausage and bacon along with steak, eggs and hamburgers. I watch to make sure I get plain pork sausage links and plain bacon.

Thanks for the reply Larry. I think I’m just overthinking thinking this. It took me literal decades to finally get a diagnosis. I was over the moon when I was referred to Mayo’s so I want to make sure I do this right. I appreciate your help.
