Sanitizing Nebulizer Equipment
I have a steam oven that has a cookware sanitizing setting. I'm wondering if I can use that to sanitize my nebulizer equipment. Does anyone use steam to sanitize?

Several of us use baby bottle sterilizers for the nebulizer equipment. Look for high temperature 212F for 10 minutes. The Bololo baby bottle sterilizer operates for 13 minutes at that temp. So I guess you'd need to measure your oven's temperature and time during its sanitizing setting. What brand oven is it? Sounds interesting.
I have a Miele steam oven. I can set the time and the temperature for sterilizing cookware in the oven so I am going to give it a try with my nebulizing equipment. Really want to get away from boiling if I can.

2 ReactionsHi.
I'm a ECMO Specialist/Registered Respiratory Therapist retired after 35 years in healthcare.
And I have chronic Asthma and Bronchiectasis. (never smoked)
I clean my Nebs after treatment with soap and water if I'm doing Q4 and let them air dry on a towel. And for a really good clean use 1:3 white vinegar(1) to water(3) 30 mins soak Q12. Also use a dishwasher.

11 Reactions@smallfish1 it sounds like it should work, but if you have an old one, you might try it first. I use a Bololo and tried cleaning the sturdy looking water reservoir for my hand held Water Pik in it. It ruined it-came out very distorted. I have to use vinegar to clean it.
Today I put my Aerobica and my nebulizer cup in my steam oven (I have another set if that got ruined) for 12 minutes at 212 degrees. The temperature is the oven's default temp for sterilizing. What I didn't expect is that the equipment was dry when I took it out. I think I will set the time a little longer next time. I have been boiling in distilled water after every treatment. Hopefully this will eliminate the need for the distilled water.

3 Reactions@smallfish1 ... I'd worry about not using distilled water since MAC is in most water. I sterilize all equipment with a UV light and put nebulizer parts and C-Pap and flutter valve in there. It is working much better than the ozone cleaner I previously used.
Do you also put the nebulizer tubing in that device?

1 Reaction@barbarahouse No need to ever sterilize nor clean nebulizer tubing. Rather replace the tubing from time to time. Some people change it often (every 2 weeks) others go 6 months. Up to you. After use let the compressor run a few minutes to dry out any accumulated moisture in the tubing.

2 ReactionsI’ve read that distilled water isn’t necessarily sterile. It just has fewer minerals?
@sarahlynn1960 That is my understanding. Somewhere along the way I read that using distilled water in BBS (baby bottle sterilizer) was ok as the water is boiled during the sterilizing process. This is what I use in my BBS.
