Have any of you been on Risedronate once a month plan for osteoporosis?

@pvf1943: On June I, 2025 I started Evenity injections; but, prior to that I took Risedronate 1/mo for 3 1/2 yrs. Begged for DEXA scan to check progress and had 0 bone density improvement… both Lumbar and Hip bone density was worse!! My doc was shocked. I started researching the options available to build back stable bone.
To be honest it feels like a crap shoot, but after checking with all 4 of my specialists they said Evenity was ok to try. I just hate to continue down this uncertain osteoporosis road! However, I will ask my prescribing doc next month for bone marker testing to prove to myself I am gaining bone. My hope is that if I gain enough bone marrow I will take a hiatus from this circus. dbamos1945

I've been on Risedronate for two years with no adverse side effects and an improved DEXA scan after the first year. I have also been taking a higher level of calcium - 1500 mg a day because I also have Collagenous Colitis and take Budesonide (a steroid) for that. I previously was on Reclast and had three annual infusions. My new Osteoporosis specialist was concerned about long-term effects of Reclast - especially the potential for kidney damage - and switched me to the Risendronate. So far, so good!

Thank you for your reply...looks like I best increase my calcium. Stopped Risedronate as I now am battling PMR...one war at a time for me!

Regarding Risedronate 150mg 1/mo pill Osteo patients: I took this pill for 3 1/2 yrs as directed. Then I insisted I get script for DEXA scan- with bad results… I had nothing but severe bone loss. I began Evenity 4 months ago and noticed achy joints and fluish symptoms after injections (injection site pain too). I’ve talked to Dr asking for “bone marker” tests with answer of “no, just finish the year with Evenity and we will scan then!”
I am pushing through the symptoms, hoping that my bones are getting stronger, but hate feeling bad everyday and all night long. 🙁

Did your Dr. give you any explanation why Risedronate wasn't working or why he prescribed it in the first place? I'm on 150mg1/month now and am afraid.

@mmwagner46: My doc put me on 150mg Risedronate 1/mo pill to address my Osteoporosis diagnosis from DEXA scan. I faithfully took it for 3 1/2 yrs with no side effects. He admitted Risedronate did not work (protect my bones) when latest DEXA scan revealed serious Osteoporosis decline in lumber spine and hips.
He urgently started me on Evenity monthly injections (210mg) and says that this will build new and replace damaged bone. I asked if I would take Risedronate after 12 mo of Evenity and he said No - you did not respond to Risedronate, it will be something else!
I share this info because if I had not insisted on Scan to check on bone density progress I would still be taking Risedronate! dbamos1945
