Right lateral knee pain 6 months after TKR
I am just over 6 months out from a TKR. Although my gait is quite good, I have significant pain, swelling, and numbness in lateral right knee, which I suspect is nerve damage. My doctor said to come back in a year. I feel like that is going to be too long. Anyone else deal with this?

jocef, your orthopedist meant to say come back in a year, if you don't have any problems. It could be a tight iliotibial band. https://www.youtube.com/watch. Your doctor will figure it out.
It's great that you have good gait.

1 ReactionThanks for your help. It seems there is no rhyme nor reason for when it "acts up." I feel like I will be one of those who is at the very slow end of the spectrum!

2 ReactionsI’m following your question as I am just 6 weeks out from my TKR, right knee also. I’m also having numbness in that right lateral area, as well as tingling in the smallest three ties on my right foot. I’m concerned it may be nerve damage as well. I see my orthopedic next week and will bring this up to him. I’ll keep you posted.

2 Reactions@farmwife1968 That 'tingling' may be the nerves waking up! I felt that, too...As for nerve damage, see the doctor, but hopefully, it's nothing serious! PS I still have numbness in parts of my knee and my surgery was last November...

2 ReactionsYes, it’s definitely a slow and ongoing process, I am finding out!
It’s taking longer than I would like, but I’m learning that’s a common theme with everyone.
And I’ve noticed that the tingling moves around some, so hopefully that’s a good thing!

2 Reactions@catheem I’m sorry you’re still experiencing the numbness. Thanks for sharing. It helps me understand what I can expect. I think it’s a situation of “you don’t know what you don’t know” going into this. This chat group really helps. Thanks again.
