Right hip replacement

Posted by youbgsterinva1953 @youbgsterinva1953, Sep 14, 2023

I’m having my hip replaced in one week on 21 September’23 will the pain get better, because I can hardly walk anymore and I used to walk around with no problem. I refuse to admit I might be getting old but I don’t want to. I’m a young 70

You will be amazed at the difference. If you’re in good health you will recover faster. I’m also a young 70. My doctor knocked a week off my recovery time based on my health leading up to surgery and progress through recovery. Take PT and do the prescribed exercises from the hospital. Makes a world of difference.

I wish I was as lucky as you. I had RHR six years ago. It took care of the chronic pain in my pelvic area (hip) pain but now I have hip bursitis. I don't know if it was caused by the surgery or not but I have fifteen inside stairs in my house and it's very painful to go up the stairs. I have had cortisone injections in the hip and it does help for a short while.

After a hip replacement has anyone experienced frequency in urination? A culture was done, but no uti. Just curious if anyone has had this experience. My hip was done 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for your comments. I’m finding it difficult to get an appointment at Mayo. Does not seem to be anyone that will take a phone call. I’ve filled out the questionnaire on- line, but when I try to “submit” it just sits there with the little spinning ball. Any suggestions on how to telephone Mayo?

I had a left hip replacement done at Mayo (RST) in January 2021. It was outpatient under sedation and regional anesthetic. I hurt so badly before the hip replacement that I could not walk from our bed to our master bath without screaming. It was awful.
When I came out of sedation, there was no pain.
Four days later I dispensed with my walker. I had no pain and I did not need pain pills. It was wonderful.
I did take tylenol and Celebrex. Celebrex was not recommended but it had been the best for my knee replacements.
At this point, I have had two knee replacements, the hip replacement, and also a shoulder replacement now.
I will be two months out on the shoulder replacement this coming Monday. I am leery of physical therapy as had a friend whose physical therapist was so over enthusiastic that the appliance got pulled apart and she needed to have it done again.
Any advice appreciated. So far have been mainly exercising in our heated swimming pool.

Yes I had increased frequency and also volume. I ended up putting a commode in the bedroom since I had to get up every 2 hours. And needed help lifting legs in and out of bed so had to wake my poor husband up every time.
