Rhomboid and trap spasm chronic but acute for 20 years
So this might seem like a novel but bear with me please.
I have been having rhomboid spasms only on my left side for 20 years! Not constant, started out of nowhere just started spasming. No injuries or accidents. I’ve seen countless drs and specialists over this time and have diagnosed it as scapula pain, in every way u could think of. Been prescribed flexerall and robaxen. The flexerall at least knocks me out while on heat pad but this robaxen does nothing.
I’ve done pt countless times. Some times be good for awhile but the spasms always come back. My most recent waste of money has diagnosed myofacial pain syndrome! So I dont agree because I’m only in pain when the spasms are disrupting my life. I keep trying to tell them it’s a nerve issue.
2 years ago I started receiving trigger point injections, which helped until last June . Guy must have hit a nerve or something because it made me jump and 1 week after that I was having spasms in the traps area. And it was not being relieved with my heating pad. Fast forward to now!
I’ve had to stop the tpi because I have avn (maybe/probably) brought on by the steroids injections. that a whole different topic but
Back to the spasms. So had them in June, lasted just a few days which was short timeframe for me but I had a few hours that they were so intense not even my heating pad was helping. Last week though spasms started up on Tuesday, Wednesday they were even worse then last time and lasted about 24 hours. 10 on the pain scale! Probably should’ve gone to er but with the avn , I’ve been on short term disability and didn’t want to spend 300 for er visit. Nothing relieved them and I tried pretty much every trick I know .heat, ice,Motrin, Tylenol and robaxen . Am I alone here?. I know no one who has ever had this issue!

I had the issue and it was due to stress because I used to hold a LOT of tension in my shoulders, upper back, and neck, head. Did it for years, still do; but now I am 70.
I have had three injections (at one time, not steroidal as I don't do those) that immediately relieved the trap pain.
I get trap pain most when I type and am stressed or tense. Massage helps a great deal and I exercise my upper body to strengthen the muscles as it seems they relax easier when they are well exercised - like daily counter pushups! Every day I do at least 40-60 counter push ups. I also do straight arm raises, flies with 5lb was - up to 8lb weights.
Am 70 and female. No body tension from shoulder blades down...but shoulders and traps - wow. I'd rather I hold tension in those places than my digestive system? lol

Stress unfortunately is solidly part of my life, I just don’t see any way around it unless I get rid of hubby and disabled adult son! Lol. So yes I m very aware of that , I haven’t hit 60 yet so believe it or not my stress relief was going to work every day. It’s a very physical job, so lol I know it’s backwards but it’s just a job but I enjoy it. But in September I was diagnosed with “avn” of the hip and have been off work since. The thing is, is that the spasms in the traps is new, it has never really been there, always in the rhomboid.

Avn is hip. MRI also revealed a concerning amount of bone marrow edema.
And right now I’ve just begun evenity regiment for osteoporosis (score being -3.0 and -3.5, along with being only 59, which will last 12 months, so I’m not one to turn to medicine, usually. I just don’t want to get stuck in that mess where you’re taking one thing that causes side effects so they give another med for the side effects and so on.
So given all that I’m not sure adding another element to my already complicated chemistry would be best action.
