Anyone with experience with severing nerves for chronic back pain

I had a rhizotomy for chronic back pain and it was wonderful!! I'm not going to lie, the procedure is very painful but it's so worth it. They basically burn the nerves so they no longer produce pain. Mine pain relief lasted about 6 months and then the nerves grew back and so did the pain. If I could afford it I would have a rhizotomy done every 6 months.

Hello 👋

What was post recovery after the surgery? Are you still feeling better today?
How long did it last, 3,6,9 months or a few years?

Thank you in advance for responding accordingly to your convenience as this response is over 5 years old.

I have 2 rhyzotomy's a year for my SI joints and L4-L5 lumbar fusion areas. I do it under anesthesia and feel no pain. It takes about 3-4 days afterwords to feel full effect. Most often works for 6-8 months, somestimes 3-4 weeks. You have to be very descriptive with your pain management doctor so he/she gets the right nerves, otherwise, you may not get the relief you're expecting. I would definitely try it a couple times to get it right, there is very little recovery time, just a day or 2 of rest, lite work. I have been doing this for 10 years after major fusion surgery 14 yrs ago.

Wow...no one even mentions this to me for pain management. Thanks, I will ask about this, as a means to avoid or postpone my fusion. I am having difficulty with injections as a diagnostic tool, to help pinpoint. But my pain pattern is L4/L5. Maybe L3/L4 left side.
