Renal cell carcinoma and tree in bud lung lesion

Posted by sallyapple @sallyapple, Aug 16, 2023

Renal cell carcinoma post nephrectomy 18 months ago and a year of Keytruda finished 5 months ago. On chest CT I now have a “tree-in-bud “ lesion that was first seen one year ago while I was on Keytruda. Now it is enlarging. Has anyone had this type of lesion diagnosed as an RCC met? If so, how was it treated? Really scared that it is a met since I have been off all treatment for a few months.

I just finished treatment for esophageal cancer tumor and the last 2 CT scans with contract showed a lesion on my left kidney which has grown by 1 cm. On Monday of this week I had biopsy of the lesion and will find out what it is next Tuesday. They took biopsy by going between ribs in my back while I was lying on my side. Do you know what your next proposed step is yet?

I have RCC. The cancer spread and I had a lymph node attached in between my lungs. When they biopsied, results were negative. The location of lymph node made it difficult to get good biopsy. Three months later, scan showed lymph node had grown. I started cabometyx and opdivo IV. Three months later, scan showed lymph node had shrunk. Still taking both meds and will get tested again in September. I pray for all of us!
Scared is ok to feel. What we have is scary. What does ‘tree in bud’ mean? I read all of our experiences and realize how individualized this cancer is for each of us. I guess I’m going down this path expecting anything can change daily.

My oncologist wants to wait 3 more months for another CT scan. Then if its still concerning, we will try to biopsy my lung.

From my understanding tree-in-bud means a cluster of nodules. I had the nephrectomy and the year of treatment and now I wait for the monster to show itself again. How are the side-effects from your treatment? I was on Lenvima before my nephrectomy and I barely made it through the few weeks I was on it, the side-effects were so intolerable.

Hi Don. I am so sorry that you are going through so much. My MRI showed that the kidney cancer is stable and has not spread so they are keeping me on the Votrient pill. Unfortunately I also have a kidney disease called Thin Membrane Disease . It is genetic. My sister had it and now her daughter has it. I am trying follow the Kidney diet but am losing a lot a weight. On Thursday I have to see the Nephrologist as my parathyroid gland reading is high again. They have already removed one and am pretty sure they will remove another. So I am sort of between the devil and the deep blue sea.....trying to control the disease and the cancer. At the same time I am using a Rife machine......do you know of it? It's alternative but I am trying what I can.
Will you let me know what your biopsy results are? Did you write this reply in August? I only saw it this morning and apologize if I am late in answering.

At what point did they diagnose you as RCC. Before or after the nephrectomy? Did they biopsy you before the nephrectomy? Or did they take tissue sample after your surgery? I have my final test tonight CT of my chest. They are hunting. So far no cancer in lymph, veins or other organs. Now they are checking my lung. I have had one surgical consultation and they recommend partial nephrectomy. Be well. Blessings.
