Red marks after rug burn scab

Posted by rarechu @rarechu, Feb 22 7:11pm

4 weeks ago i got rug burn in my arm, for a little under 2 weeks, it healed and the scab fell off, for 2 weeks after the scabs fell off, ive now got red marks where the scabs once were.
the rug burn wasnt too deep but deep enough to scab over.
Ive had cuts, grazes and rug burns before but never had red marks last this long and dont know how long till they go or how to get rid of them quickly

Reading your post, a couple of things come to mind. Perhaps these new marks came as a result of a deeper irritation so that the healing is taking longer? Have you tried using a vitamin E cream on the area to promote that healing? Or maybe, while that area is sensitive, you may want to try to not do anything to renew the irritation.
What do you think?

As a plastic surgeon we see redness in skin injuries sometimes lasting weeks or months. Be patient. Almost always it improves, of course depending upon the depth of the injury. Two suggestions:
1) Over the counter hydrocortisone cream 2-3x/day for a few weeks may speed up the healing.
2) Avoid sunlight which can cause pigmentation.
