Red light therapy for PMR?
Has anyone tried red light therapy for their PMR pain? Dealing with PMR now for 9 months on 7 mg prednisone but still have pain in my right shoulder and hand. Someone told me about how it helps pain and I thought I would ask.

2 ReactionsHi @marianne2025, I've had PMR and GCA twice. I've been using red light therapy for years prior to the onset of those disorders. It's supposed to increase blood flow and has other benefits. It does assist with pain relief at times.
I find it can end pain of minor injuries, like a mild sprained ankle. I need a shoulder replacement (osteoarthritis and torn rotator cuff) and it alleviates the pain for a while, but the pain always returns because that injury is severe.
Red light therapy may give you some relief. You can shop around online, read the reviews and select an appropriate model. Something that will fit your shoulder and be versatile enough to use on other parts of your body.
I hope that helps.
My Dr put me on a biologic called Kevzara and that helped me wean off the prednisone with no pain.
Good luck
@tweetypie13
How long have you been on Kevzara and what kind of tapering strategy did you use?
@villager
Kevzara takes up-to 60 days to take effect.
I was at 9mg prednisone, and tapered to “0” pred in 3.5 months.
The taper was not more than 10% at a time.
My taper was relatively easy compared to others I have read here.
If no pain after a week, give or take, I tapered,
sometimes alternated like 3mg day 1 then 2 day 2 then 3 day 3 then 2 day 4, if no pain that equals 2.5 total and took it accordingly.
As dose got lower and no discomfort, it was a quicker taper.
Now 6.5 months later still no problems.
My Kevzara shots have been at every 3 wks for the last 3 months and hoping Dr will let me 🛑🙏.
Good luck.
