Recurring Belching, Sore Throat, Congestion, Fatigue-Is it long covid?

Posted by mapsaj @mapsaj, Jan 6 12:06am

I am looking for help from my son who is 15 years old, he has been experiencing recurrent episodes of unexplained inflammation and severe symptoms of belching, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, fever, fatigue. He is currently seen by Doctors at Stanford and they are not able to diagnose his condition. We would greatly appreciate your perspective if someone else has faced similar conditions

Below is a brief overview of his condition:

Symptom Onset: Began after his first COVID-19 infection in August 2022
Episode Profile:
Past(October 2022- December 2023): High fevers (up to 104°F), multiple bouts of vomiting, pronounced fatigue, intense sore throat, and severe nasal congestion. Episodes occur every 4-8 weeks, typically lasting 2–8 days.

Recent (2024 Jan - Till Date): Fewer fevers, nausea/vomiting, now presenting with severe sore throat (sometimes so painful he can’t speak), persistent belching, and fatigue lasting around 2–3 days, nasal congestion. Episodes occur every 10-12 days, typically lasting 3–5 days.

Has anyone experienced the same / similar recurring episodes post covid?

Truly appreciate any guidance / perspectives / insights. Thanks

mapsaj, Bless his heart and yours too. Long COVID can have so many different syptoms for different people. Speaking from experience it can cause an uptick in GERDS (Reflux). Is there a COVID Recovery Clinic in your area where he can be checked out?

Questions:

1) Has he been checked for Mono (Epstein Barr Virus)?
2) Has he had an endoscopy with a Gastroentestinal Doctor to check for escalated reflux or hiatal hernia?

Praying for him and you. I'm so sorry he is battling this.

thanks @blessedsista24 @covidstinks2023

He has had multiple test in last two years to rule out allergies, genetic testing, endoscopy but nothing conclusive. Basic labs indicate inflammation during episodes, no definitive diagnosis yet.
