Reclast and Teeth-Cleaning Appointments
Hubby is thinking that he should get an appointment to have his teeth cleaned before having his first Reclast infusion in April. Is this something to be concerned about, given the dental work warnings?
How do you schedule teeth-cleaning appointments after starting the annual infusions? Is it important to schedule them in-between the annual infusions?

It’s where the tooth destroys itself from the inside out . It looked like someone scooped out a portion of my tooth . It’s very rare . Believe it or not years ago I had the same thing on the other side and it had to be pulled and I had an implant put in .
Kristie, I saw that resorption was very rare. I’ve been trying hard to keep my teeth and ONJ is scary. Keep me posted if you can and let me know how things are going with you. I will endeavor to do the same. We try to fix one issue and have another. All the best!!
Osteoporosis is a cruel joke . They put us on these meds when all of us will have problems with gum recession and bone loss with our teeth . Then what ! We can’t have dental work done and if we do risk getting ONJ . Such a dilemma ..
I just had my appointment with a periodontist and need a root canal. It’s scheduled for next month . The periodontist feels the tooth can be saved . I have resorption of my molar. Let’s hope that when she gets in there it doesn’t need to be pulled . I’m in my 8 month of Evenity .
A root canal is good news, all things considered. I, too, just took my eighth dose (shot #’s 15 & 16) and will know if the procedure I recently had will save me from having an extraction. I’m hoping for a happy and successful outcome for you! Cheers!
I’m planning next steps in connection with resorption of a front tooth. My dentist of 25 years just sold his practice. Scheduling and communication with the new folks have been frustratingly difficult with a very long wait for a consult appointment which was then lost with no record of it.
The dx of resorption was made by an endodontist who showed me the 3D Xray. Options are root canal with 50% predicted success, bridge or implant. I’m leaning towards root canal as least invasive.
I’m seeing my endocrinologist shortly to get his input. I took Forteo 2015-2018 followed by Reclast. No Reclast since ? 2019.
I want to get a second opinion even assuming I will pay for it, particularly with the predicted 50% success rate on the root canal. I dont know which tooth specialist I should ask - I don’t even know what a periodontist does. Thanks so much for any suggestions and info.
From my understanding, teeth cleaning should be fine. Any other dental work should be about 8 weeks out from the infusion. I take Reclast, I have had my second infusion and a recent cleaning with no issues.
Any reactions to the infusion? I need to stop watching YouTube about all the negative reactions. It makes me overthink if I should do it or not.
I had to think long and hard about doing any drug, but after my second bone scan I decided to do something. To answer your question; my first infusion I had some flu like symptoms for about 6 to 8 hours. This second infusion I had in March, I did not have any side effects. Drink lots of water and take a Tylenol; it helps. I do have aches and pains but I had these before the Reclast. I too was hesitant because of everything I read and researched but my family advised me the benefits out weighed the risks. I will have my bone scan this December, that will be the determinant factor on the decision. I wish you the best. Osteoporosis is a real bite isn’t it.
I'm happy to report that Hubby's doing fine after his first Reclast infusion 2 weeks ago, with no side effects whatsoever. Hoping it will help prevent a third vertebral fracture and subsequent kyphoplasty surgeries. Wish we had done this sooner!
