Recently had the new Covid vaccine. My experiences

Posted by robertwills @robertwills, 1 day ago

Had the most recent Covid vaccine at about 10 am. Had a sore upper arm developed within several hours. Then as soon as I got into bed at about 11 pm. I started having fairly severe chills for a couple of hours. I did not want to get out of bed to get warm clothing it was so bad. Then warm/hot sweats. then moderate headache, light nausea, I felt run down, had some achy finger joints, sharp needle-like pains in my scalp and only sleep maybe a total of two hours until 7 am. I pushed myself , got up and shuffled in total discomfort to get Ibuprofen and put on warm clothing. Then I was able to sleep until 2 pm. When I woke I felt terrible, moderate headache, weak with no appetite but within a few hours of sitting at my desk I felt significantly better but not normal, maybe 50% normal. I estimate by tomorrow I will be fine.

I'm so glad I got the vaccine. I urge everyone for who it is recommended to get it, too. The immune response, the side effects, are unpleasant but a day or two of that is far better than suffering with full blown Covid, which statically most people will eventually catch or catch again.

I wonder if there is effective medication that people can take when the chills start so they don't have to suffer them and the typical immune responses after the vaccine is administered. I believe more people would take the vaccine if this were the case.

@robertwills, we are all so different. For me, this recent vaccine was the easiest. I felt little soreness in my arm and was even able to sleep on that side. Earlier vaccines I experienced more soreness and a very heavy arm. I was surprised how uneventful this round was.

Were you advised to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for side effects after the vaccine? Staying hydrated can help.

Yes. They said to take acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. But I don't know how effective that would be for chills and malaise.

Pfizer
Today I feel vastly improved but now dealing with the after-effects of not sleeping regularly and not eating that much. So glad I got the vaccine.

I had a metallic taste in the back of my throat with the very first Vaccine (Pfizer). It didn’t happen for the subsequent vaccines, but I will not be getting any more of them. I lost my taste and smell with Covid in December of 2022 and still don’t have it back. I had a very mild case of Covid with only sinus congestion. I’m not one who gets sick with chest colds, so I’m opting out of any more. Good luck to those of you who are.
