Recently diagnosed with severe osteoporosis of lumbar spine -3.4 T sco

Posted by doglover1962 @doglover1962, Jan 26 12:46pm

I just saw an endocrinologist (referred by my OB/GYN) and all of my bloodwork came out within normal ranges. Although she did not test my sex hormones (which I believe is the cause of my sudden diagnosis - went from osteophenia of lumbar spine in July 2021 and repeated my bone density test in January 2023) (2 1/2 years later) which revealed my t score of -3.4 (from -2.3). I went through menopause at age 60 as well in 2022. She now wants me to take a 3 step therapy program with either Evenity, or Foreto or Tylmos and then after this therapy is finished to go on Prolia several years and then take an oral or iv bisphosphonate. Has anyone else been on any of these medications and did you have success with bone density and did you experience any severe side effects?

i had 1 shot of prolia and had a severe reaction so i can never take it it left me with a diagnosis= of ra and 3 compresion fractures that was only after 1 shot you can't just stop prolia i would definotely research it thoroughly before taking it. many many more side effects that i believe and others do really never leave ypur body

I had excellent gains with Tymlos. Many seem to be taking Evenity these days: it is new and very potent. Others start with Forteo. You can read up or watch Ben Leder's video on You Tube on Combinations and Sequencing. The advice is to start with a bone builder (like the three I mentioned) and then "lock in" gains with a bisphosphonate like Reclast or Fosamax. Some use Prolia but it is hard to get off and the fracture risk goes up when it is stopped.

Thank you for sharing your own experience with these drugs and for the you tube video which I will take a look at next.

I would highly recommend reading Dr Keith McCormicks books before starting drug therapy. One thing he says is to take Prolia no longer than 2 years. There are also 2 bone turnover markers he recommends being tested for, CTX and P1NP to help determine what type of drug you need.
Good luck on your journey.

Thank you for your advice.

The thing is Prolia can make other drugs less effective or worse. Again read "Great Bones' and or watch Leder's video. Prolia works but it is hard to get off and if you lose bone afterward there aren't that many options for further bone growth, from what I have been told.

Have you had a REMS scan?

No, I haven't. What is that type of scan? What can it show? My endocrinologist never suggested this scan.
Thank you for replying to my concern.

I just researched this type of scan. I will ask my doctor to see if she can order this test. Thank you again 💓 💖

Is REMS scan a better diagnosis?
