Re-excision Lumpectomy
I’m looking for your experience (not advice) from those that had invasive ++- ..roughly stage 2 with 1 lymph node involvement (clear first attempt) and margins not achieved on re-excision.
We got adequate margins on IDC but positive still on DCIS (stage 0 or precancerous). I planned on taking temooxifen immediately after and radiation 4 weeks later if DCIS was still present to mitigate some risk of reoccurrence. I have smaller breasts and not knowing how far DCIS is, 3rd surgery is unlikely.
I’m sure they will suggest mastectomy next but struggle with the idea of such a radical step for precancerous cells that may or may not turn to cancer. I can’t wrap my head around stage 0 and completely removing breasts at my age 51, losing all feeling and potential complications of further surgery, reconstruction with implats (more surgery) for what ‘could possibly or not possibly occur’ with further treat and monitoring.
With that said, has anyone chosen to not do mastectomy and further treatment with tamoxifen, radiation and close monitoring with success?

Should say—no mastectomy but is doing temoxifen, radiation and close monitoring
Why did you have second surgery?
I think I had something similar- but I’m was 60-
Choose a lumpectomy and reconstruction. I had 7mmIDC and 4cmDCIS. Took 3 lymph nodes. Negativity lymph node, margin good on IDC, but missed the margin on the DCIS( grade 1 or 2) . Had a second surgery to have clear margins on DCIS. 15 days radiation with a booster. Now on Exemestane( hormone blocker AI drug) I get a physical check 2x a year and diagnostic mammograms and sonogram. Hope that helps.
2nd surgery was an attempt to clear margins, which we did for IDC but not for DCIS.
Oh! I’m sorry! 😞.
Did they tell you how much they missed?!
Hang in there- don’t rush
Doesn’t say on path and likely bc of IEC. Waiting to hear from surgeon when he is in the office tomorrow. I was worried we me never get clear margins on DCIS, as it is difficult to see/find.
