Range of motion before and after surgery

Question?

Does ROM immediately after TKR surgery have any correlation to ROM before surgery. In other words, if you have great ROM before, does that affect positively or negatively your ROM after surgery? I am extremely flexible currently and planning on having surgery because of pain and wonder if after surgery I will lose ROM.

I can only speak to my experience. I was fairly flexible pre-op also. Immediately after surgery, nope. Plan on serious PT post-op and, whatever they tell you, do more. That was my mantra but it does take a while to regain. My last TKR was Jan 2024. I restarted yoga a month ago and that’s the best thing I could have done for me. It’s coming back.

Thank you. I have been super flexible my whole life and I was hoping that it would carry over through surgery.

everyone is different as to their overall condition and their desire to get back into the game. If you are motivated and healthy and enjoy movement you will do all that pain free. If you are overweight, don't like movement and have a lot of unhealthy habits you might not heal sufficiently or be sufficiently motivated to recover.
