Radioactive blue dye injected to the breast for lymph node dissection
Has anyone had this radioactive dye injected tracer before surgery to see if cancer in the lymph nodes. I understand it is very painful and since I was told this would be done for me before I have the lumpectomy removed in my breast. I, want to know more about it. Hope someone can advise me.

Thay did mine right before the surgery. I was sedated and didn't feel a thing. Call and ask if you are going to be out. Hugs
I wish I had been sedated! I screamed and jumped off the table. That person who gave me the shot was lucky I didn't hit him.
No warning about the pain. I called the hospital and complained as it was barbaric to do this with no pain meds.
You were lucky!
Same here, it was horrific! A special nurse came in saying she was the BAD GUY but didn't really warn me what was to happen. Terrible pain and after reading here that it didn't have to be that way I wonder why they have to be so barbaric! Ladies, make sure they do something for the pain before you get this. Insist on it!
I wish I'd been out! They gave it to me about 30 minutes before surgery - a needle in the nipple! A very long needle. I found it to be REALLY painful. The people that say it's not going to hurt need to have it done to them.
My surgery was 6 years ago this coming July. Just my experience.
I agree - it was simply awful.
I had the radioactive dye before my mastectomy. 4 shots in the nipple, after a topical anesthesia had been administered. I'm no fan of shots, but honestly, it wasn't a big deal. It helps to distract yourself - talk to the nurse about something else.......look off in a different direction. A lot of this entire journey requires proactive "head" work. Get in the game and do your part by doing whatever you can to muddle through psychologically. It's worth the fight!
My surgeon injected me with the blue dye before surgery. The pain was terrible. Did anyone else have “fish hooks” inserted where the cancer was located in the breast?
@smseidler, welcome. Will you have further treatment after lumpectomy?
It was more extensive than they originally thought. Do yes I go in for Masectomy 6/14@ Jacksonville Mayo.
