Radical prostatectomy, incontinence at night, can't pee in day

Posted by richardB @richardblackman, Aug 24, 2023

My best friend followed my radical prostatectomy with his 5 months ago. He has an issue that his surgeon and urologist have never seen, so searching for a doctor that may be familiar. He's suffering urinary retention during the day (he has to force his pee) and incontinence (a full wet pad)when asleep at night. No strictures or blockages in the bladder or urethra; he has no urge to urinate and no feeling of having a full bladder; his urologist has him force a pee every 2 hours. Mayo folks or others, anyone heard of this & know of a doc that might be?

Thanks for following up Colleen. From my friend with the issue (Milt). He is going back for some kind of tests, but here is his status now.

"My update is that nighttime incontinence has improved slightly, from 3 pads per night to 1 or 2; but daytime is essentially the same. I’m still doing timed voiding every 2.5 hours, 24/7. I do have some feeling of a full bladder, but not any urge to pee, so I have to consciously decide to pee, and push it out with my pelvic muscles."

I hope he gets better. I am over a month out now from the surgery. I pee all the time and am doing the dinky exercises all the time. I can stand over a toilet and it just keeps dribbling out for 10 minutes so I don't understand this with your friend. Very sorry. The Surgeon and Lab says no cancer spread with me and all gone but will wait for the 90 day PSA and if 0 and not moved up any, I am good and just have to have blood work on the PSA every 3 months. God Bless all of you.
