Radiation wounds in bladder causing bleeding

Posted by tommalone7 @tommalone7, Oct 7, 2023

I’m in remission from bladder cancer. Had it twice actually. The radiation I received has caused wounds in my bladder that won’t heal causing blood in urine. Undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatment now without success now. ( 22 treatments thus far). It was suggested that I start 6000 mg of niacinamide daily to aid in the healing. Any advice?

Hi @tommalone7. Welcome to Mayo Connect. I hope you'll find some solace in the information that you find here -- looking back and discussing forward. I've been in a similar situation, not after radiation, but after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP). For a number of months after the surgery, veins around my prostate leaked blood into either my bladder or my urethra when urinating. My doctor, a urologist, asked whether the blood was dilute or "frank," meaning undiluted. When I told him it was dilute, he told me to contact him or go to urgent care if the blood ever comes out frank. It never did. You asked for advice. My advice is to rely only on the advice of your medical team, not on me or other patients whose symptoms may be different from yours. Martin
