@mrser52 Hello Elaine:
We do have a discussion group for people who have had head and neck cancer, if you have not been a member of that discussion you might find it interesting. Here is the link, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/meet-others-living-with-head-neck-cancer-come-introduce-yourself/?pg=5#comment-88020
In this discussion, many people discuss the problem of dry mouth which can lead to gum and teeth problems as a result of radiation. Some have spray bottles that they use to keep their mouths moist.
How long ago were your radiation treatments? Has your oncologist or dentist offered any helpful suggestions? What have you tried?
I look forward to hearing from you again!
Teresa
Hello. I completed whole brain radiation in August 2017 and just in the past couple of months am experiencing severe pain in my gums when having either hot or cold foods, as well as even walking outside for a period of time in extremely cold weather (I live in freezing cold Minnesota.) My dentist suggested Biotine products and something called Magic Mouthwash. Have not tried these yet.
My last SRS treatment was 12/28/2017 and my oncologist said that these treatment can't cause my problems. and my dentist has no knowledge of radiation treatments. I will connect with the link you mention. Thank you very much for your help. Elaine.
Hi, just wanted to let you know that the Magic Mouthwash works GREAT, don't waste your money on the Biotine. And I also use Colgate Maximum Strength Sensitive toothpaste (Fresh Mint gel) I hope this works for you.
