PT problem after reverse shoulder replacement
I had reverse shoulder replacement approximately 2 months ago and I am really struggling with the exercises in PT. The problem is that my right shoulder that had surgery tends to rise like I am shrugging which limits what I am able to do. I am so frustrated. Has anyone else had this problem? Any recommendations are welcome. Thank you.

I would suggest that you call or go in for a consult with the surgeon or a member of the surgical team to be evaluated and get recommendations.
Yes all the time
I had mine June 25 and I feel my arm and shoulder becoming stiffer
I cannot rotate my arm or wrist and still have some kind of pain
I still cannot put my hand on my hip
Going behind back is doughtfully going to happen
I’m so unhappy
PT is still the same as in July
I need weight training
Anyone by little weights????
I had mine in 2019 I believe you might be talking about “hiking” shoulder which we are not suppose to do. You are very early yet in therapy. I have a top notch DPT (doctor of physical therapy) who is awesome and still helps me today. In 2024 since still feeling like I had small impingement and locking up in pain sent by my orthopedic surgeon for a 2nd opinion and was diagnosed with a rare complication of conjoint tendonitis. An injection did wonders for 3 months but surgeon predicted it would come back because I’d had it so long. A new surgery was being done but two drs hadn’t done it and didn’t feel comfortable doing it. I was sent to a third surgeon who felt comfortable doing it for the first time . He released the conjoint tendon and did a distal clavicle resection so back in therapy full time.
Again you are very early in your therapy. A great therapist will help you along. Tell them what you are feeling and your struggles. They will know how to help and will know if and when to send you back to surgeon. Recovery is not a sprint but a marathon. It took me almost 4 months before I could drive without pain everyone responds differently. Best of luck
@gravity3 i’ve discussed this with my surgeon but he didn’t have any recommendations and the people I do PT with couldn’t give me any recommendations too. I just need to understand how to keep my shoulder down and not rising up when I do my exercises. I just don’t know what to do and if I’m going to be able to get my range of motion back, I need to be able to do this. 🙁

1 ReactionDo they have you using pulleys? I purchased a Thera brand pulley from Amazon and have used them daily as prescribed by my DPT. My therapist had me stand in front of mirror while doing exercises so I could see what hiking was. It’s hard to get out of the habit of doing and I can recognize when I do it now and I correct it as best I can. He would physically hold my shoulder down with his hand to do an exercise so I know what I was suppose to be doing. Maybe there might be a better therapist out there for you?
Again you are way early on your journey
Anyone have a total shoulder replacement surgery?
@besmith57
Hi! I had a TSR the end of February 25. I was doing well, strengthening and gaining range of motion.
Mid-April I had a traumatic fall off of a tilt trailer and broke the fall with my arm. Completely ruined my shoulder.
Had a reverse shoulder re-replacement in July. It has been a slow recovery - no PT because surgeon said the possibility of breaking my small bones was too high.
It’s coming along but NO range of motion behind. Will never put my right hand in my back pocket or hook my bra from behind.
But- I have forward use of new shoulder so I am grateful.
