Pseudomonas in sinuses
I have been battling pseudomonas for over 3 years. I've had 4 sinus surgeries since late 2020 and had bone removed. I've been hospitalized twice for 2 weeks each time and given ceftolozane-tazobactum, I was treated at home with cefepime by IV twice, and Meropenem one time by IV. I have tried tobramycin in nasal rinse and I'm now using cefepime in my nasal rinse. I am treated by an Infectious Disease doctor and ENT. I've also used several oral antibiotics. My quality of life has been adversely affected by this chronic infection. I was also tested by a immunologist, but no issues detected. I'm desperate to be rid of this infection and enjoy life again. Has anyone successfully defeated this bacteria? Mine is multi-drug resistant. Any hope and advice is welcomed.

My suggestion is to lookup uses for CHLORINE DIOXIDE. Also, there is a product called SNOOT with ClO2 as an ingredient. It cleared my sinusitis in just 2 nights.
Thank you, I will try definitely try this.
Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered the two-ingredient chlorine dioxide you mix and then, as I understand, add a drop or two to your nasal rinse. This product was about one-quarter the price of the brand-name Snoot. Can't wait to see if it works on my pseudomonas! My references included: https://mastermineralsolutions.com/uncategorized/how-to-use-chlorine-dioxide-for-ears-nose-and-eyes and an application for product patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/EP2525802A2/en
The Snoot brand is expensive but worth the money since it's so easy to mix and comes with its own nasal spray bottle. I hope it helps you. Keep us updated!
@magsusan When I was at Mayo for spine surgery, before surgery, they had me use the topical antibiotic ointment mupirocin in my nostrils twice a day for awhile to make sure there would be no staff infection. That works great every time I get a sinus infection and I can clear it in a couple days before it moves to my lungs. My doctors let me have a prescription for it. I don't know if it helps what you have, but just a thought.
My ENT has me add a tiny blob of mupiricin to my nasal rinse along with the saline + budesonide + 1 drip of baby shampoo when I have infection.
Thank you so much for reaching out. I wish that worked for me. I've tried it many times, with a RX from my ENT. My infection, pseudomonas, is resistent to mupiricin.
I have had Pseudomonas in my ethmoid sinus from impacted infection in 1984. Repeatedly infections following the initial surgery were only suppressed by antibiotics. I finally found an ENT IN 2022 that successfully helped me. Psudamonas is resistant to most antibiotics except for the 4th generation of a Floxin administered by IV. Very strong with lots of side effects. I survived that and another surgery. The infection had made it into the bone. Repeated in office procedure have removed all the infected bone. The good doc now gives me compounded antibiotics that cultures show sensitivity to by pseudomonas I place this med into the sterile sinus rinse twice a day. So far we are winning. Keep looking for that special ENT that can take on this challenge.
Your story sounds much like mine. I also have had cefepime IV. I had 61 doses before surgery in 11/2023. That was successful, but at followup more found in the bone. It was near the surface and easily removed. I have had a recurrence recently, and now have been prescribed Levofloxin compounded to be placed in a sterile rinse. Will try this for 3 weeks. My infections initially began in 1984. The doc at that time did surgery and removed structures and nasal lining. He said the disease would be with me for the rest of my life. My life drastically changed with being very unpredictable from one day to the next whether I would be well. I am hopeful!
