PSA Test

I'm 72. My father and grandfather both had prostate cancer. My PSA last year was 1.5. This year it is 2.41. Should I get retested?

Given you age, the result as a stand alone number is not necessarily a call to action. As others have said, there are variables which may affect the results. Consider asking your medical team for labs and a consult in three months and then assess the clinical data, did it rise again, family history, DRE, MRI of the prostate, life expectancy, co-morbidities…A third PSA test could also be used in determining PSA velocity and doubling time, more clinical data in solving the jigsaw puzzle, what is it, do I need to do something…?
