PSA increase: Should I be concerned?
I am 73 years old .My PSA in 2021 was,2.01. In 2022 2.31. 2023. 3.01 and now 3.33..Is this anything to be concerned with? Frequent nightly urination..Also occasionally slightly burns..Can't get in to see a urologist until February..

Not a real high PSA for somebody 75 years old. If you are really worried, you could ask your doctor to get a PSE test done and that will tell you whether or not you have cancer without having to do a biopsy. The test is highly accurate.
Prostatitis can cause all of your symptoms incuding PSA rise. You may have a urinary tract infection. Your primary care physician could check on this while you wait for the urology appointment.
@teb829
You are still in the normal range for PSA levels. However, a rising PSA number does suggest a problem with prostrate. It could be simple and easily treated BPM. Or could be cancer and need to determine type, if spread, and level of aggressiveness.
My PSA was still normal when my PCP said he did not like the rising PSA levels and referred me to urologist. DME, MRI, biopsies, and then cancer diagnosis but was caught early and low risk status.
Frequent urination is a sign of BPM. However, the slight burning I have read can be something else like an infection. I would not ignore and keep your appointment with urologist. If you have a good and experienced PCP he or she could help with testing, DME, etc.
Good Luck! We do not want you to join the Prostate Cancer Club.
I agree with @jeffmarc. Try the PSE test. With a promulgated 94% accuracy, it may give you some real comfort.
Slightly off topic, but would a PSE test be useful in determining whether or not SRT was curative?
Teb - your still under limits for yoru PSA considering you age for sure . BUT , maybe get another PSA test so you have plenty of data points before seeing the 'URO' . Why the long wait to see a URO ? Where do you live . Any other lines ? The boring is just at night or all the time ? To me ( I not a Dr though ) it does sound like a natural rise in PSA , that has to be watched as velocity is getting up there , but you may have a Prostate infection , that leads to enlargement at times . Let us know how things work out . Your in my prayers bud ! James on Vancouver Island .
PSA rising by less than 100% over three years is a good sign...while it does't rule out cancer 100%, it is highly doubtful you have it, and if it is there, it is not aggressive worrisome. At age 70, my PSA also started to rise, but doubled and got over 4 by the time I was 73, when I had my surgery. Don't worry, see the urologist, and keep getting screened is my thought.
Never knew about the PSE test.
Is this taken in the blood draw?
The Company that makes the test says that it can tell whether or not your body has active prostate cancer circulating in your bloodstream. That can give you a determination, I am not sure that is the definitive answer long-term however
Yes, the PSE test uses your blood to see what’s up and whether it shows you have prostate cancer. It is highly accurate, Like 98%.
It is a new test that’s why many people have not heard about it. It’s a perfect test for somebody on active surveillance.
