Question about protein levels
Hey y’all, I’m kinda concerned about my protein lvls and did a recent lab to see if my kidneys are doing fine. I also have Lupus SLE but it says nothing is flaring and I’m doing fine on that. So it says my eGFR is 135mL or 1.73. My creatinine urine is 28.1 mg/DL. Protein Total Urine is 22.2mg/DL and my protein/creat ratio is 251mg/g. It’s saying 0-200 is normal range, but I looked it up that mine is moderate high. I don’t know how to read these also so I’m not sure if my creatinine is even normal or the others. I’m not sure if the high protein automatically means kidney damage or issues. I’m not showing any other symptoms besides like hip pain but it comes and goes. I did went to go see a doctor about that pain and he said it was just muscle soreness.

It seems that professional medical advice, primary doc and/or specialist to evaluate this. There are so many factors involved…doing research helps frame good questions for docs, but is no substitute for serious medical help. Kidney problems often don’t have symptoms in early stages, so getting on top of this sooner can spare suffering….wishing you the best.

3 Reactions@d4rlove Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I was diagnosed with SLE lupus in 1988, and have been doing 24 hour urine collections, routinely, since then. And yes, even way back then, that test always showed a high protein level. I recall my rheumatologist making a comment that they were concerned my protein levels were caused by lupus nephritis, but then I moved and things were never given a follow through.
What does your doctor tell you? We are not medical practitioners here. Seeing that you have an autoimmune condition already, it really would be in your best interest to get professional feedback, that looks at your situation in the whole. What do you think?
