prostate surgeon or treatment center near Knoxville, Tennessee?

The husband of a friend of mine was diagnosed with prostate cancer that is still contained within the prostate, and was scheduled for surgery last week. Two days before the surgery his surgeon called and said he had changed his mind and wanted my friend to do 4 months of ADT to shrink his prostate before surgery. My friend was very thrown off by this, and through some contacts, found a well regarded surgeon in Boston and asked him to look at his MRI. That surgeon said he could see no reason why 4 months of ADT should be necessary and that he thought the surgery could be done right away. My friend would prefer to find a highly recommended surgeon closer to home, which is near Knoxville, Tennessee. I don't know if he is planning on robotic surgery or not. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions about how he might proceed to find someone? He and his wife would be very appreciative as would I. My husband is currently undergoing ADT for prostate cancer and this forum has been very helpful for us!

The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville is ranked an NCCN center of excellence. I’m sure you can find a surgeon to do the Surgery there. You should ask for Nerve sparing, and Retzius sparing surgery, So you have only short term incontinence problems and frequently can get an erection after surgery.

Dr Scott Shelfo (Surgeon) and Dr Lily Shikibnia (Radiation Oncologist) at City of Hope in Newnan, Ga; have been incredible for me. Both listen extremely well and are heads of their departments. However, I see them everytime, vs physician assistants.

Another nice thing about City of Hope, all tests are completed in-house.

Best Wishes.

In Knoxville they might try Dr. Bienvenu at UTKMC Urology.
