Prolia after Forteo

I have been reading many of your comments on the osteoporosis drugs you have all posted. I greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experiences. Wonderful to hear success stories and so sad to read about the major horrible side effects. It appear the doctors don't want to discuss the major side effects.

I just went today for a second opinion with a rheumatologist after meeting with my endocrinologist. I have been on Forteo for almost 2 years with very few problems. (Daily shots are no issue but do experience overall lower body pain and stiffness---not comfortable but not nearly as bad as the multiple stress fractures pain I had prior to Forteo). I had a rod and pin put in my femur from a stress fracture and multiple stress fractures in my feet with caused me to be unable to walk for months.
Now it is time to make a decision after 2 years of Forteo. Both doctors agree that I have to do something to retain my growth on DEXA.
My spine went from -3.1 to -2.4 and the hip with no metal from surgery went from Total -2.8 to -2.6 and Neck -2.7 to -2.5.

Both doctors are recommending either Reclast or Prolia. The rheumatologist today explained that I would most likely improve my numbers on Prolia and then go on Reclast to retain the growth.

Does this sound like I am getting accurate information?

Thank you so much for any feedback you have.
I wish everyone success in your bone growth and healing.

Yes. You could also go directly to Reclast. I am curious why your doc is first recommending Prolia, since I am in a similar situation!

Hi!

The rheumatologist recommended going to Prolia to possibly have a further gain in my Dexa numbers. He said Prolia can have an improvement vs Reclast only retains the gains from the Forteo.

I am waiting on a follow-up response from the endocrinologist . It has been 3 days since I sent the message to there office and still waiting.

Have you made a decision yet?

My doc doesn't want me on Prolia, I guess because of the issue of needing something afterward. He says I can do Reclast and then take a break.

Since I am sensitive to meds, he is going to try 1/3 dose Reclast with slow infusion, hydration and premedication and if I tolerate it, I will do more.

It really depends on my DEXA in March. If I have not improved enough on Tymlos I will ask about Evenity as a follow up.
