Problems with radiation treatments

Posted by shelby29 @shelby29, Apr 7, 2023

My husband is having difficulty keeping a full bladder for his treatments. If it's not full enough they wont do it. Anyone else have/had this problem? They are considering catherizing him so they can infuse bladder with water.

Be thankful you were not treated at Rutland Regional Medical Center. The healthcare system in my area truly sucks. Want to go to the doctor we can get me an appointment next year. My oncologist was supposed to see me every week and was a no show half the time. Near the end of my treatment I could barely walk into the hospital not from radiation but because Lupron sucked the life out of me.

I now have a new doctor at Dartmouth Hitchcock in NH an hour drive from where I live.

Reading this I am so thankful that I live 35 minutes from Mayo Phoenix.

Us too....kudos to Mayo....they care about their patients. I'm sure many other institutions do as well, but from feedback here, some are more focused on profits.

Struggling mightily with VERY painful bowel after defacating.
Daily Salvage radiation 29 txs completed with 8 more to come.
Irritation from radiation increased by balloon insertion for every treatment.
Last 2 weeks has increased from very irritating to extremely painful. Exacerbated by multiple loose bowel movements, 4 - 5x daily.
Currently trying to inject internally proctozone 2.5 cortisone cream to heal tissue (rx by rad onc dr). External area not significant issue; using 5% lidocaine externally only.
Majority of products researched NOT for use inside rectum.
Anyone have success txing this type of side effect?

I feel your pain. 4 months post radical prostectomy. Currently experiencing painful bowel 4-6x movements daily with radiation treatment starting on 5/8/23. Not sure how I'm gonna have an empty rectum and full bladder. The only way I've found to reduce the pain is a hot bath (temporary but welcome relief). Not looking forward to the pain getting worse. Good luck, I hope your pain subsides. It is literally a PITA.

I had problem with holding enough water for radiation- I havent been able to have a full bladder in years. The average i can hold is 4 oz. I found out a few years ago why. There is a nerve that goes from your back to your bladder that tells your brain when bladder is empty or full. Mine thinks it is full. There actually is a fix for this. They embed a chip in your hip and run a wire to the nerve. Supposed to be a quick and simple surgery. My problem i go to bathroom about every hour or two day and night. P
problem was caused by car accident some 50 years ago.
