Problem with Chronic constipation
I have a history of hypothyroidism, severe endometriosis/treatment was a hysterectomy 17 years ago.I also have a hx of IBS. My thyroid hormone levels are stable. I eat like a rabbit(I poop like one too, LOL!!!!!!). I eat a large amount of fiber and drink almost every hour(nonalcholic).ONly prescription drugs I take are armour thyroid and my estrogen/prosterone troche. I make a coconut bread and I add psyllium husks, flax seed and chia seed to it. I eat it practically every am. I also eat a spinach salad for lunch daily with nuts and yogurt and eat a lean meat and veggie and more coconut bread at night. I do one cheat meal with a cheat dessert once per week. I am relatively active for my age of 60. I've been to a gastroenterologist and we have tried Linzess which didn't help at all. I take miralax, and a Super Cleanse tab one per day which has herbs to soften the stool and to stimulate the bowel and It barely works. I am at a loss. I have not tried Montegrity yet. I don't know if it will be helpful and the side effects scare me. I had a CT of my abdomen and it was ok, no obstructions. The gastroenterologist that I go to practically accused me of abusing laxatives. I would be impacted if I didnt use the miralax and the Super Cleanse. Diet/water and activity do not help. I had diarrhea from my late teens to the age of 36 when my intestines out of the blue just shut down completely. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I was put on Synthroid but the constipation didn't go away. So if there is any gastroenterologist out there that can help me, please let me know.I feel defeated and worry about my health.

I sent post to the wrong group a few days ago. Pretty embarrassed sending it the first time but here goes. Constipation suggestions working on and off but an issue I haven’t even told husband or drs about is pretty personal. I think I have rectal prolapse from years of bowel problems. Red blood with almost every movement. Bright red not dark maybe fissures. I am at the point I need to actually push rectum back in. A little poop sometimes escapes so wearing pads. In the middle of Waldenstroms treatments which is probably exasperating everything. I did have a colonoscopy 2 years ago and they removed a couple of polyps. Any suggestions?
What if I don't eat breakfast? What do I do about that? Thank you for your time I am so tired of being constipated every so often the doctor gave me linzess but it all of a sudden stopped working.
I got up around 9:00am and sometimes I eat lunch around 12 or 1 and yes I'm disabled so it doesn't matter about my job I just help a friend of mine around his house watering and feeding the critters
Has worked two days in a row. Today is day 3, stay tuned
I tried many many laxatives. I had a colonoscopy to make sure nothing was blocking my colon (that was unpleasant.) I took Miralax and it gave me incontinence of stool. The NP sorta gave up on me saying: I don't know what else to try with you. I stopped my headache meds thinking it was slowing down my stool. THEN: I made an appointment with my doctor and saw her assistant first. She said she made sure to take her thyroid med every morning before eating with a glass of water. BINGO. That was not my usual procedure. I just swallowed all the AM pills together before or after eating. Never thought it could matter. IT DOES. Now I take the thyroid pill every AM before any food. Am super happy I no longer have constipation.
Have the doctor prescribe injectable relistor. This is literally the ONLY thing that will allow me to have a bm, and usually if I'm backed up which I always am, I have a bowel movement within 5-10 mins while drinking my coffee, and before any food for best results.
Hi there
Sorry you are having these issues. It's really tough and can affect every part of your life.
I've tried Motegrity and initially thought it was a miracle pill after decades of trying all other prescriptions for severe constipation, distention and pelvic congestion, however it only worked for a week. I don't eliminate without taking Senna, stool softeners and Ducolax... and those are working only once a month now. I prefer not taking meds but have been I've tried it all; Enulose, MiraLAX, every magnesium, stool softeners, laxatives, pelvic therapy, prunes, kiwi's, epson salt baths, Tens unit. Drs are unable to tell me the cause or diagnosis and removal of the intestines is recommended (even a decade ago). No obstruction, Sitz market test showed scatter throughout intestines (100% markers still there after a week).
I'm curious - has anyone had successful results of May Thurner procedure (stents placed in iliac veins) and see any results of increased bowel movements? Wonder if the improve blood flow is a positive outcome for paralysis of the intestines and if the two conditions intersect.
Hi Kitchen,
You've been through it all. Wow.
I have what the Gastro guys call an "extended" colon. Longer than normal requiring more "push" to vacate.
I use Miralax in 4 ozs. of warm PJ about every other day and a lot of strain.
I eat a lot of meat. Fish, pork chops, prime rib and broccoli, shallots and green beans. Lots of steamed broccoli.
Good luck.

Hi Kitchen,
I haven't had the May Thurner procedure but I've had the Mary Thurner procedure. My
back was sore for a week afterwards.
