Primary Small Bowel NETS, Liver Mets

Posted by fraaseo @fraaseo, May 14, 2025

I’ve included a photo of my liver Mets in case others are interested in what it actually looks like. Photo was taken by NETS surgeon prior to removal. Keep in mind it is magnified & many of the spots are no larger than the head of an ink pen.

@ricki8: I would love to learn about your Histotripsy procedure for Liver Mets, since I have multiple liver Mets from my sm. Intestine NET primary.
What size tumors were done?
Where was Histotripsy performed?
How long ago was procedure?
Recovery time & side effects?
Thanks for sharing with your peer NET patients. Bette. dbamos1945

Hi again,
I have the same as you, discovered in Mar./23 I am Grade 2, Stage 4.
Histotripsy was done in Seattle, Wa. on May 17/24. I was put under for over 7 hrs.
As a Canadian, it wasn't covered here, so it cost me approx. $225,000. (CAD). Ouch!
As it was non-invasive (a targeted ultra-sound) there were almost no after affects. The anesthetic caused a bit of flue like symptoms 2 days later for approx. 4 days.

Approx. a 2 centimetre liver tumor was liquified (destroyed and did not come back).
Partial cavitation was done on approx. 4 others, with no growth yet on those.
Those not touched grew slightly.

I was on Lenvima from 11/05/24 - 06/25 and stopped it when I had a massive heart attack (flatlined) 06/26/25 (suspect it was the Lenvima), changed to Everolimus (which has very few symptoms). So far, I am stable, just waiting to see the results of a recent CT scan and will report if no growth.

I hope this can be helpful for others looking for alternatives.
Ricki

Please could you tell me where you got the Histotripsy done. I had a right haemocolectomy due to Grade 1 stage 4 NETS last year. The lymph nodes were clear but there is metastases in the liver. They decided not to do anything but I need to get the triple phase MRI done every 4 months. So far all good

Thanks Bette
Happy to be a source of information. BTW, at this time, only small tumors can be worked on through Histotripsy, but as discoveries go, hopefully soon they will be able to work on larger and many organs.
Wishing you and all those on this site to 'Hang In' as more advancements are coming out fast and furious. Especially the mRNA vaccines.

@ricki8 Thank you for your reply. I wish you the very best for the future. Hopefully my spots on the liver stay stable and don’t require any further treatment. I am from India, and histotripsy is not available here yet.

Hi @bubbledalmia
There are many new options other than Histotripsy that can help ward off growth. Ask your doctor or Oncologist about options. BTW, my Oncologist is Dr. Gill (she is Indian and really good).
