Presistant Throat Clearing and Coughing with rare occurances of Blood
My wife has been coughing about 2-5 times a day with constant throat clearing for over a year or two. Once in a blue there will be bright red in her sputum. I took her to a very well known ENT specialist in our area. He used an endoscope to check through her nose and throat and found nothing. We also had chest X-Rays done and also nothing.
She does not smoke at all and has not had a drink in two years. Even when she did drink it would only be an occasional wine cooler or a glass of white wine. She is an African-American female in her early 30's. Im very worried and i would give anything for some clarity.

Hi sorry to hear of your wife's problem. If the scope didn't see anything, then maybe the throat area is clear. have you given any thought to a possible allergy? Coughing 2-5 times a day seems like a distant dream to me, but that is my problem. Some anti-histamines may help if it is an allergy. You need to consult with a doctor about the causes and discuss possible ideas on causes.
All the best.
Sorry to hear about your wife. A few years back before my tonsil cancer I had a very bad problem with acid build up in my stomach and it would work it’s way up to my throat and cause me to cough during the day and night. After being prescribed antacid medication to take once a day my problem had completely stopped.
Hope this helps
God bless
Just had another thought, Does your wife take aspirin? If so she should stop immediately. Aspirin particularly uncoated varieties can cause stomach and oesophagus bleeds. They start tiny and build up. I had to stop taking it several years back. Winston may be onto something as well with the antacids. Possible ulceration in the above can cause quite serious problems if left unattended.
