Prednisone Side Affects

Posted by lulubelle57 @lulubelle57, Mar 17 10:26am

Recently diagnosed with AIH. Was initially on budesonide and prednisone and 2 of the liver enzymes dropped to normal, third enzyme dropped 20 pts. All was looking good. Doc took me of budesonide and put me on azathioprine instead. A couple of weeks later, I was in the ER at 2am with symptoms of pancreatitis. Doc took me off the azathioprine and increased prednisone to 20 mg. A few days later, I broke out in Petechiae rash. Now I’m noticing numbness in fingertips. Anyone else dealing with this?

@lulubelle57 Prednisone has many potential side effects. Numbness and petechaie, while uncommon, are considered serious, so you should contact your doctor immediately.

@sueinmn Heard back from MD. Petechaie is a common side effect and they are not concerned about that. Neuropathy is not common. I’ll be seeing her in two days to check it out and discuss. Of course, the numbness subsided within a couple of hours and fingers have been fine since then.
