Prednisone, Leflunomide, adrenal adenoma. Confused
I was diagnosed with PMR the end of October. Originally put on 15 mg of prednisone. Helped but not great. So upped me to 20 mg for 2 weeks and told to taper 2.5 mg every 2 weeks. 10 mg was ok but pain increased a tad but not debilitating. Nervous to taper to 7.5 so called my rheumy. She suggested Leflunomide. I don’t want to go down that road due to side effects. I then tried taking 5 mg at 3:30 am someone on discussion suggested and 2.5 in the morning after breakfast. It’s ok but have some discomfort (maybe a 4 on a scale of 10). Should I be concerned that I have some stiffness and pain but can still function?
To complicate matters I have an adrenal adenoma, which normally should not be of concern so trying to get an appointment with an endocrinologist. I feel like I’m stuck in a catch 22. They won’t see me until I’m off prednisone for 1 month although today, which much insisting, I was able to get an appointment in May. Can they (prednisone and my adrenal gland) all be connected? Anyone else been through this?

“Inhibiting the natural production of cortisol
When prednisone is administered, it disrupts this regulatory mechanism, effectively inhibiting the natural production of cortisol and ACTH. One of the most significant concerns with prednisone use is the risk of adrenal insufficiency.”
From my understanding taking prednisone interferes or completely stops your adrenaline gland from producing cortisol, so all this is connected yes!
Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject with comment on here!
