Prednisone and water retention

Does anyone take or eat anything that helps with water retention?

I drink extra water to help with fluid retention and eat a low carbohydrate diet, avoiding sugars and starchy foods. Carbohydrates increase fluid retention - the more sugars we eat the more our body retains fluid to process them. The "hydrate" in the word carboHYDRATE refers to the extra fluid that is retained to process sugary/starchy foods. Packaged and processed foods contain a lot of hidden sugars (glucose, dextrose, fructose, starch, syrup), so I avoid them. Haven't had a problem with fluid retention while on prednisolone, eating low carb and drinking extra water. The other thing is to keep moving, keep active.

I appreciate this conversation as leg swelling has tripled for me on prednisone. I do stay active, avoid the "whites" in my diet, but may not be drinking enough water. Thanks.

Me too! My calves and legs are really puffy and my diet, exercise and water levels are good.

I know that it is best to cut sodium and up the potassium, so I am potassium loading with foods.
