Post-Surgery Depression/Anxiety

Posted by hipguy1975 @hipguy1975, 6 hours ago

Hello all. 51 year old guy here. I had anterior total hip replacement in March of this year. Physical recovery has gone well. Mentally, I felt good up until about 7 weeks post-op when I noticed a slight dip in my mood and my anxiety getting "sticky." That went on for about a week, and then I just sort of spiraled hard with anxiety/depression and sleep issues. I have a history of episodic anxiety/depression, but my last episode was in 2022. I do not take any medication. I have read that inflammation from the surgery and healing can sometimes cross the blood-brain barrier and cause some inflammation and anxiety/depression. I am just wondering if this could be what is going on, and if anyone else has had any similar experiences. Thank you.
