Post RARP routine physical and blood work

Posted by jayhall @jayhall, 1 day ago

To help with PSA anxiety my PCP thought it was best to test my PSA in their lab and test my Testosterone for levels after my RARP. Other than that it was a standard physical and they were generally glad to see me. 🙂 They were also impressed that I completed 8 sessions of Pelvic floor training and also said that I could start going back to the gym and start slow and do some kegels etc with a personal trainer. One thing, if my Testosterone levels are High, I have to go to the Urologist to see if they want to do something about it.

The RARP doesn’t have anything to do with testosterone. The way to reduce testosterone is ADT or estradiol (The Patch trial)

High testosterone can bring back prostate cancer, especially if you have a high Gleason score, Above 7 after the prostate is fully biopsied.

Since I was a Gleason 8 and my cancer was ruled Aggressive and High risk that's exactly why my PCP wanted to test my Testosterone levels.

Thanks Jay for sharing an update 😃 ! Those are all good news and your doctors are on top of your situation 👍 . Now that you got green light for the gym I am sure that your mild anxiety will be gone since exercise helps a LOT 👍😃 . My hubby is doing exercises on his own, I wish he can have personal trainer, but it is what it is. His incontinence is down to 30 ml a day (which is about 5 tsp). It is minimal but since he might perhaps need adjuvant/salvage it would be nice to have it gone completely before that happen ( he is now about 7 weeks post op). I hope you do not mind me asking - is your incontinence completely gone and I forgot how many weeks passed since your surgery ? Is this your first PSA test ?

Wishing you great blood work results and keep us posted 🤗 🌺!

@jayhall

Everyone should get a testosterone test before going on ADT so they know what their testosterone level was before they started the drug.

Just wanted to make you aware that they RARP doesn’t affect testosterone.

@surftohealth88 My first PSA post RARP was 0.080 which is a good number! 🙂 My Incontinence is gone except for some leakage when I stand. 🙂 I am almost 5 months post RARP. Glad to hear your hubby is doing well.

Thanks Jay for sharing additional details 😊. You are really doing great 😃👍 and that is encouraging to hear for all of us that are waiting for our first tests and exams. My husband's energy is good but his blood count is still not optimal (he lost a LOT of blood during surgery for some reason) so we are working on that. His hemoglobin is just 13 : (, but hopefully it will come up soon ...
I am sure that your tiny leakage will soon be gone too 🍀👍🙂

Yeah, that would've been nice....

I agree with Jeff for sure here. Those of you in the early stages of this should most definitely get this done.
