Post Craniotomy : Any tips for itchy face?

Posted by jeanneoc @jeanneoc, Nov 24, 2025

Doing well 10 days after craniotomy but developed itchy welts on face as I came off steroids in last few days- care team suggested antihistamines 👍🏻🙏🏼Anyone else have this?? Tricky getting comfy to sleep but finding our way👏🏻🙏🏼Just looking for timeframe- hope this will run its course quickly!! But happy to be home and walking well😊

Hi
Good to see you’re getting around well. I didn’t have a reaction to steroids but did have an itchy forehead after finishing radiation treatments. There were no welts, just general itching. I used Eucerin, the OTC lotion for dry skin. The itching stopped after two weeks.

Thanks for responding! Very helpful 👍🏻 Im grateful itchiness is my issue😊I can walk by myself and left side mobility seems fine!! How great is that?! Good luck recovering from your radiation 🙏🏼

Also recommend you call the American Brain Tumor Association- they have a peer mentor program and pair you with someone in similar situation as you. My peer mentor has been extremely helpful- easy to find on their website.🙏🏼🫂

@jeanneoc, how are you doing? Has the itching resolved? What helped?

The care team /surgeons office suggested Allegra/antihistamines- problem resolved after about a week👍🏻
Still dry patches but very much improved- thanks for checking.

@timekathomas, what type of tumor do you have? When will you be having surgery? How are doing today?
