Post CAR-T failure, is there hope

Posted by Jeff @jefe, 18 hours ago

I have had multiple myeloma now for over eight years. I have been through all the usual treatments. I have had treatment failure after Stem Cell transplant and CAR-T. Is there any hope for treatment beyond that?

Hello.
I am sorry you are so deep into this. I am in the beginning of my journey in a clinical trial for linvoseltamab at Dana Farber for smoldering multiple myeloma. It’s been intense and challenging in ways that caught me off guard. I cannot imagine what your experience is right now. It’s a wonder and powerful to hear you after treatments and car-t to still be curious and continue searching for possibilities. Thank you for your courage and sharing it. I kind of needed your post this morning.

Good morning, Jeff. I’m sorry to see that you’ve had another replapse for your multiple myeloma. This is incredibly disappointing for you but it doesn’t mean your doctor has run out of options for potential treatments. Even in Car-T therapy there can treatment resistence.

Reading through several articles this morning for you, this one by Medical News Today is brief but sums up some of the possible treatments for relapsing MM patients after CAR-T relapse, including a 2nd Car-T procedure.

More importantly, what have you discussed with your doctor? If I remember correctly, you’re a patient at Mayo Clinic. I know first hand the lengths our care teams go through to insure our successful outcomes and have the strength of the best doctors in the world to make that happen.

What has your doctor suggested for post treatment for you? Also, how are you doing? I know news like this can be pretty deflating. But it’s important to not to let your spirits wilt. Never give up hope! ☺️ It can be helpful sometimes to sit with a counselor to work through feelings and to learn how to cope with a huge disappointment. Are you doing ok?
