Possible Vaginal Cancer

Posted by savypaige25 @savypaige25, Aug 26 2:49pm

So I just recently found a pretty big mass inside my vagina, before hand I was having my period for (almost) 2 weeks, once I found the mass I immediately booked an appointment to see gynecologist, as i found the mass (8-24-22) and I go to see the gynecologist the 31st, my nerves are completely shot and I cannot keep myself together as I am so scared to even go. I am embarrassed that I thought my periods were normal for me. (I've had irregular periods my entire life) I turn 25 next month, I didn't know where else to go to talk about this, my husband won't talk to me about it, as I want to talk as in the possibility of cancer. He tells me not to think the worst case scenario, but my mind instantly goes there. And I can't help it because my gut feeling is telling me that it's cancer. If anyone can give me any tips on composing myself until I see this doctor in 6 days, im completely nervous about the exam itself as well.

Thank you for responding, hoping to hear tomorrow, if not I will call. Im going to keep this to myself until i have some definative answers.

@rainyp Thank you so much for coming here to support @savypaige25. You have had so much loss in your life and it's understandable that you don't want to scare the people you are closest to. I felt the same way when I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Is there anyone you can talk to who you feel would hold you emotionally during this time of anxiety and worry? This is a lot to hold in.

I like your image of virtually holding hands and a hug. This is what I offer you too filled with hope that the biopsy is scheduled very soon.

Would you come back to Mayo Clinic Connect and let me know when the biopsy is scheduled? I'd like to send you positive energy on that day.

scheduled for next Thursday ( 9/22 ) for a consult with a gyno-oncologist. Still holding out hope that its an infected cyst or anything else for that matter. The original exam was not thorough as it was very painful. Thanks for being here , hope your day is as beautiful as your soul

@rainyp. It's good that you got in for an appointment next week. I'm holding out hope for you. September 22 is not that far away. GYN-Oncology is a subspecialty of oncology and from what I can tell there a not a lot of them around. It's good that you are seeing someone in this subspeciality.

How are you feeling? Do you have family or friends you can talk to for support?

@rainyp OK is good. Under such circumstances, if you're anxious, having trouble sleeping, then that's OK too. It makes sense to me, anyway. It's great that the GYNOncologist has an office closer to you and is affiliated with a hospital you respect. I did the same as you. I waited until I knew more before I started telling anyone in my family. I did tell my partner, though, as it would have been hard to hide my worry from him. And I wanted his support. Of course he was so worried that I wanted to support him!

Yup, all is good today. And please do come back here and let me know if you have questions or need a virtual hand to hold.

Saw the specialist 9/22. Definitely a mass. Which I knew.. scheduled me immediately next day for mri and petscan.. which confirmed. Good news is bladder and urethra look good but lymph nodes may be infected. Did pre op and am scheduled for complete pelvic exam and biopsies this coming Tuesday. My son is on fast track home from Chicago to take me. I'm mentally confident the end result will be fine but preparing myself for a rough ride. Side note- would this be a crazy time to get a dog?

@rainyp So you already have the results from the PET and MRI and those images showed no problems with the urethra and bladder. Now on to the lymph nodes that will be examined in more detail with the pelvic and biopsies on September 27. This is happening fast which is good as you will soon have more information. It's great, too, that your son is on his way home and you will have his support. Yes, it could be a rough road ahead or ….it might not be. Let's wait until you have more information. That's what I tell myself when I imagine all sorts of scenarios that get to the worst possible outcome and I say "Don't believe everything you think. Just because you think it doesn't make it a fact".

Bringing home a dog? Now, you're speaking my language. We don't have a dog right now. Not because I don't want to have a dog but because my partner is opposed right now. Otherwise, I'd have 2 or 3 dogs by now. Nope, it's not a crazy time to adopt a dog but maybe wait until after you have more information from the biopsy? A dog would be such a wonderful companion.

What type of dog would you like? A big dog? A small dog that will sleep in your lap?

Amazing how fast everything is going. Which leads me to suspect this is super serious. But trying not to think that way. As for the the dog I randomly met a women on the beach today. She just rescued a 2 year old Jack Russell. I'm meeting him tomorrow!! His name is Jackson

@rainyp Your exam and biopsies are scheduled for today. Did I get that right? Positive energy being sent your way for your medical exam today.

I have to ask, of course, being the dog lover that I am. Did you meet Jackson, the Jack Russell Terrier ,yet? Jack Russell terriers are energetic , right?, so if he comes to live with you you'll get plenty of exercise with him.
