possible gluteal tendinopathy

Posted by sand1313 @sand1313, 1 day ago

Am asking for my disabled son age 65. The toes of his left foot cramp and curl up, mostly at bed time. it is painful and he is unable to sleep. He has tried standing and walking a bit. it helps a bit. He is due to have a steroid injection in his back (L4 an 5) in tw0 days. It is for hip pain. Makes me wonder if gluteal tendenopothy isn't what is going on with his pain. anyone else have this problem?

Based on what I read here it's not glutineal tendinopathy. That involves the glutes as you can imagine. AFAIK there isn't anything that can be done for that. I have hip issues and some lower back pain. I recently had some L5-S1 relaated issues which were of no help for the hip or back pain.

I would suggest to see a podiatrist if his toes bother him. Could be hammertoes. I had them on both feet, but don't recall the pain preventing me from sleeping.

Compression at L4-5 nerve root can cause toe cramping especially the big toe. This injection may help the toes.
The position of the spine at night may be contributing. You might find that a pillow under the knees if sleeping supine or a small pillow or rolled towel between the knees if side-sleeping. Post us if the injection helps.
best wishes
