Poorly differentiated mucinous adenocarcinoma

Posted by sunnyk @sunnyk, Dec 28, 2023

Hello,
My husband (48) was diagnosed on Dec 22 with poorly differentiated mucinous adenocarcinoma (esophagus).

We have not had any appointments yet and waiting for the cancer agency to connect with us. We do have a phone consult with a surgeon on Jan 2. We have been told he will need a PET scan, lung function test and echocardiogram.

Does anyone have any insights or feedback? Feeling very confused, scared and lost.

Hi @sunnyk, I know you got responses elsewhere, but I also wanted to welcome you in this discussion you started. In the meantime, you and your husband have had the consult with the surgeon.

What did you learn? Do you know more about your husband's stage of cancer and treatment options? I look forward to hearing from you and to connect you with similar esophageal cancer members.

How are YOU doing?

Hi Colleen,

Thank you for your message.

The surgeon told us that my husband will receive concurrent treatment - chemoradiotherapy, and then surgery. He is going for a PET scan on Wednesday and we will also be meeting with the radiation oncologist. We do not know the staging yet, but the CT did not show any spread, and hoping the PET shows the same.

I am scared and exhausted.

Thank you for connecting me with others.

Sunny

Hello Sunny. I’m caring for my mom who also has adenocarcinoma, although she is much older. Do you have staging information on the tumor? If so, i found several good resources online that helped explain the staging numbers; happy to share.

Sending you strength & courage.

Hi @gooddaughter

Thank you for your message.
We do not have staging information yet. My husband has a PET scan tomorrow.
I would love to read the online resources you have found.

How are you doing with everything? How is your mom?

It is definitely a journey!

(The sites are on my home computer, will send later but attached is one that I took a screenshot of.)

I heard the PET scan called a “sugar scan” & that was helpful for me to think about…identifies areas that are “active” or “hot”.. Hoping for M0 staging…M as in metastatic.

Hang in there & don’t forget to take care of yourself.
