PMR pain management with medical cannabis

Has anyone used medical cannabis for pain management/ treatment for PMR? Has it helped you taper Prednisone? Do you use it on a regular basis or just as needed for pain? What form of cannabis do you use? Do you use a combination of cannabis and CBD?

Cannabis helps great deal for PMR pain relief for me. I inhaled a puff and the pain is gone. When I was in extreme pain a 10mg edible helped also. My edible was all THC, I do not have experience with THC/CBD blends.

I've been clean and sober for 35 years, but I received medical marijuana card and very briefly tried CBD and cannabis non-smoking products.
My experience was it did deaden pain, but it had a very negative trade off. I believe becoming less aware of your body's signals and feedback takes you farther away from finding more functionality in your life, and less chance of the PMR eventually releasing.
When PMR flares occur my goal is to use my different tools (methods) to allow the inflammation to release sooner and occur less.
Cannabis and CBD may provide a dulling of the pain, but ultimately more and more will be required.
I contend there are herbal and movement methods, along with a certain amount of "integrity of intent" (for me guided meditations by Authors I respect)..... That don't remove pain, but can put it at distance, and allow me not "take it personally" acting out in sadness, anger, or fear

Thank you for your honest reply about the benefits and pitfalls of THC and CBD. Funny thing...yesterday I fell while hiking on a trail and really wrenched my back. I came home and grabbed two Fish Oil capsules (2000mg). I can't use NSAIDs because of a history of bleeding ulcerations from long-term NSAID use. Twenty minutes later I was surprisingly pain free. Yes, I am still taking Prednisone 12.5mg for PMR and trying to taper but I am thinking Fish Oil might become my go-to for breakthrough pain or just when I am so achy I need some relief. I also have a mind-body pain practice (from the work of Dr John Sarno and others) that is very helpful when I exercise it.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I have PMR and ET ( blood cancer on chemo) after 1 year with these 2 diagnoses on chemo and Prednisone. Trial and error have helped me develop a program, My Program for me.
DIET( no sugar, no gluten, no processed foods, no nitrates
SUPPLEMENTS
EXERCISE ( chair yoga, hot tub)
CANNIBUS ( for nausea after chemo, ABSOLUTELY HELPS WITH DEPRESSION alot better then antidepressants.
I meditate, pray , I have a garden. I have a family that is always there for me.
This is my program. Always tweaking when needed, but focused on WORKING MY PROGRAM!!! I PRAY YOU ALL FIND YOUR PROGRAM. Never stop sharing.

There are many cases where cannabis is the best answer (example: chemo).
Initially when my PMR was full blown all-day long pain and depression, the PMR condition told my body and mind, to "curl up in a dark corner, in the fetal position and don't move.
Yet in many instances, the best way to get a PMR flare to release was to get some sun, some fresh air, and a little movement! But for sure there are times when it's best to rest and be still.
So for me maintaining some sort of clarity about my present state, is critical. ..... And cannabis sure as heck cloaked the pain, ache, depression.... But it stopped me from moving my recovery forward, and staying in the present enough to have a better probability for food choices.

I find a THC/CBD combination works to help with pain. But like some of you I didn’t want to also dull the essential parts of me and mindfulness. There are so many types of pot right now. So many combinations of things and with other chemical compounds playing a huge role. If you are in a state with medical marijuana go to a dispensary and talk to them. I have tried Harlequin. CBD content is between 8 and 16% and THC is 4 to 7%. It is also good for relieving seizures and helps with pain, inflammation, headache, depression, and stress. And it doesn’t make me loopy. Charlottes web, named for that little girl who had all the seizures from epilepsy has also helped me. More CBD content. CBD content is about 20% and THC is 0.05% or less.

And start with tiny doses to see effect. I keep a little black book. Everybody is different and will have different reactions.

I’m in Australia and cannabis is basically illegal except in a few jurisdictions. Medicinal is available but very hard to get. Of course, it’s available illegally but I’m in my 70’s and don’t circulate in those places any more :). Two things. I was able to get CBD patches from a naturopath and I managed a bit of sleep but nothing much otherwise. Our neighbour who mows our lawn was chatting to my partner who mentioned my PMR and he gave him a small bag. It was quite strong so probably high THC and hydroponic. I made cookies and it worked well although too much and you don’t move, and moving is critical to feeling well and getting better. There were some seeds in it so I grew my own plant and harvested it this Autumn, a month ago. It works a treat in cookies. Not too strong so I go about my daily life, swim, Pilates, walk, garden. I went off prednisone last November after a year and have been dealing with the stiffness and aches, which are slowly improving. I’m lucky as I responded straight away to prednisone but getting off it was harder as stiffness returned. Nothing like the full on PMR but I now need to recover. It’s a journey.

Cazwell50? Can I move to Australia to meet you and learn your ways. You sound fun as heck and a force of nature. I had forgotten about the benefits of pot baking. That used to work so well on another issue Ihad years ago. You do have to be careful. There is a delayed reaction but it is a smoother way to handle the pain.

I was diagnosed with PMR in 2017. I started on prednizone and then went to methotrexate. The pmr pain disappeared but I weaned off the drugs as fast as I could because of the side effects. I live in Canada and cannabis is totally legal here. I am presently 67 years old and have not used cannabis since my 20's. I started to research the benefits of cbd for pain and inflammation. The info I was reading convinced me to try using cbd to control the inflammation which was causing the pain. I tried different types of cbd and have had success with it. CBD oil is not cheap so i started to look for a cheaper way of doing this. About 4 years ago I started making my own cbd oil using cbd isolate mixed with mct oil. It seems to have worked for me and is a cheaper way of doing it. CBD isolate does not contain any THC so you do not get any kind of buzz from it. The product is made from the hemp plantwhich does not produce thc as does the cannabis plant. since my initial diagnoses of pmr in 2017 I have not had any issues with pmr symptoms. 7 years pmr free, until now. I have just had a pmr flare up. Thats why im looking on this site for info. Something triggered this flare up and I have no idea what did it. Doctor prescribed 50mg of prednizone for 7 days and see where I'm at then. I took the first pill 10 hours ago and feel like a new person already. I know its a high dose but I plan this to be very short term and wean off it quickly and resume my cbd regiment. Hopefully it works for me as it did last time. I've found that cbd is something that you have to commit to and take it daily for a long period to feel the benefits. My experience is 5 to 6 weeks. it needs to build up in your system. sounds like a long time to see if something is going to work for you but I have not experienced a single side effect from using it for the last 7 years. I go to the doctor on a regular basis and go through all the normal tests. Other than arthritis and this freakin pmr I have no other health issues, so far. I guess once you have pmr you'll always have pmr. It hides and once in a while something makes it rear its ugly head and attack. I just thought I would post my experience with pmr and cannabis (hemp). Its not for everyone but I feel it has worked for me. If big pharma wanted people to get better cannabis would be legal everywhere.
